    I've been keeping my eye out for a crank. Do you always replace rods with the pistons? I've seen OS rebuild kits with new bearings, pistons, and gaskets for around $520. Are those a good way to go or buy separately?

    I picked up a 2001 Johnson 70 hp (j70plsis) a few years ago. It would start right up and idle but wouldn't go without stalling until it warmed up. Then it would hit about 5300 rpms open water. Compression was weak, 90/90/72, and lots of sludge dripping out of the lower unit even after new seals...
