    Model # is ?----It is a 75 or 90 HP I believe.-----The wires are disconnected FIRST.-----The lower unit is not heavy at all.----The lower unit is easy to remove.----Did many of them back in the day.

    If you were skiing behind the wonderful 40 , you would see water pouring out of the exhaust relief.-----Then when you dropped off the skier and at idle lots of water vapor / " steam " would pour out of exhaust relief.----When engine settled after idling a bit , water would spit out of exhaust...

    Serial # or picture of this cover will help YOU to get an answer.----Sounds like a leaking poppit valve diaphragm to me.----But just a wild guess at this time.

    Need to look at some videos on maintaining this simple magneto.----You overlooked something.----Like removing magplate and screwing new wires into the coils BEFORE putting coils in position.---Factory offered a special ring to place coils in position.

    Threads on those tubes are all the same.-----The ---" tiller cable " and pulleys are no longer legal on motors of 50 HP I believe.-----Go with a modern cable system..---It will fit.

    There is a throttle cable and a shift cable.----The trunnion is the method for adjustment.----Curious to know the reason for your question.-----Issues with your motor ?

    The stator to ground should read INFINITY.-----400 ohm indicates a short to ground.----Replace stator.
