    Car coils do not work.-----The factory coils on that motor put out 40,000 volts.----No need to improve on that.

    Maybe the " crank in neutral only " switch is bad or needs adjusting.

    The 70 to 1985 fits.-----The 60 HP to 88 is also a fit.

    With fuel in the plug holes it should bark like a wild dog.-----Switch the plug wires.-----And reed valves have nothing to do with compression is the cylinders.

    powerpacks are essentially all the same.----When length of the wires changes, the part # changes.

    In the early 1960's the 5.5 / 10 / 18 HP had a little glass bowl filter / separator.---Find one and install it.

    Salt water motor ?-----Corrosion between plastic bushings and the aluminum might be jamming up the pivot points.

    Is the battery big enough?---And have you had it load tested ?

    Bulb has to go hard.----So you have a leak.----Inspect INSIDE your fuel tank.----Some plastic tanks are junk.-----Check fuel pump diaphragm.-----Check float valves.-----Once motor has started the bulb does not need to be hard.
