    You would have to turn the key to " on " and safety lanyard clip installed if control has that.

    Does spark jump a gap of at least 1/4" on a test device?-----Checked for cracked ignition coils ?----Post a few pictures of this motor.

    What do you mean by ----" the strongest water pump I've seen " on this motor.-----Pull the flywheel and see if coils are rubbing against magnets.-----Check and see if magplate bushing is loose / worn.----How did you adjust the timing on this motor ?

    I do not believe the 120 models were ever marketed with the 60 degree looper block.--The small 60 degree blocks had the gear down starter.----Load test the battery.----Take starter apart for cleaning , inspection , ohm check on armature.----No beer tokens spent to do this.-----Perhaps new...

    If water got inside the engine , it needs to come apart for inspection.-----Take starter apart for inspection and ohm test on armature.----Do a compression test using rope on the flywheel.

    It should be running at 5000 / 5500 RPM at full throttle.-----Post actual compression values.----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on each lead ?-----Stop running the motor as it is now.-----A plugged carburetor can result in serious piston / cylinder damage.

    Seller likely demonstrated motor a number of times without water to the impeller.----That is done all the time !----The white piece likely has something to do with speedometer hose.

    These carburetors are often set too lean.-----They idle smooth on a hose.-----That is NOT the correct setting when motor is in the water and needs to produce more power to spin the prop.-----Open the mixture screws 1/8th at a time and test.-----Repeat as needed.-----Often the bogging goes...

    1973 Merc 75 Impeller Pickup Tube

    For many years and power ranges , Mercury used a 10X number.----The inline 6 cylinder 150 HP was designated as a 1500.----V-6 175 was a 1750 Etc, Etc.----Cut a bit off the inlet water tube to suit.

    This motor needs 12 volts to the amplifier to get spark.-----Disconnecting the big plug was futile.----Perhaps the rotor is shorted to ground.
