    Hi I have a slight leak between the two nuts on the fuel pipe as they enter the carb. Can you use a small amount of plumbers tape between these nuts to stop it or should I look elsewhere / tighten further?

    Got a second attempt to start the motor today - no backfires, but sadly I think the motor is toast. I’ll check the compression again tonight, suspect the oil that was in the pots and providing good compression has now gone and its low again. I went through a couple of good batteries cranking it...

    Power Steering Pump thread?

    Does anyone know the thread / diameter of the flared hose that screws into the Power Steering pump on a Mercruiser please? I need to buy a barbed fitted so I can loop it back to the return on the pump for testing purposes out of the boat. It’s a 1998 Vortec 4.3.

    Quick check (and this might be a red herring) - but on this video the guy has his No1 dissy post at the back (where mine was) rather than at the front as per the above diagram - does that matter?

    Thanks this really helped. Timing set and leads removed, traced and labelled to help in future - will try and start it tomorrow. If its a runner and sounds OK I assume we're into timing lights to do the dynamic timing? - or does that need to be done before I try and start it?

    Right chaps, firstly thanks for all the help / pics. So removed rocker cover / plugs and turned over until on compression stroke / valves closed and aligned notch on case as seen. Dissy marked case marked and rotor marked for cylinder 1 and spun about 180 degrees and reinserted. Screwdriver...

    Thanks, so when the TDC lines on the flywheel and cases aligned and both valves on No1 are down that’s the TDC I want right? Then set the disi as per the video?

    Thanks for the help guys, I’ve just been looking at the motor, this is where the number one HT lead connects to the current distributor, it appears to be exiting the back not the front of the distributor pointing towards number one cylinder where you would expect it to right?

    Found an American car service specialist a few miles away. Might take it there tomorrow and get them to do it, I’m out my depth here and don’t have a timing light either. 👍🏻
