    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

I have always found the Prop Calculators a bit optimistic on the amount of Pitch chosen. Then again, I do my boating between 1950 and 2400 ft above Sea Level.

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

Adding Diameter, while subtracting Pitch can result in the engine seeing the same overall Load, and thereby no change in RPM. A 2" increase in Diameter is substantial

Tach non working on Mercury classic 50

I saw a Wiring Diagram from Mercury and it showed the Rectifier as having 2 Diodes, not 4.

Which is higher Viscosity than Modern Oils, which start out at about SAE 20 and have thinners added.

Tach non working on Mercury classic 50

Mercury is not using Full Bridge Rectification, just Half Bridge. Might be a way to keep the Current low enough to avoid a Regulator

1977 Crestliner Muskie 7**, Outboat Restore Project

Looks like there is a fair bit of Glass that didn't get saturated with resin I suspect the Keel has rotted as well

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

Another Lava Maker? Think of it as Mother Nature sending a Message to Humans, that they really don't own the Planet. In fact they are more like Parasite to it

    No Water - How Long?

Water is the Lubricant for those Pumps.

    2 Stroke Exhaust...

Some Boaters cry about a little bit of Smoke, and newer 2 strokes, with Auto Mixing of Oil to gas, are at idle running on 150:1. I would love to see the Criers being near an outboard from the early 50s, those were run at 16:1 and 20:1. Actually, if they are still running today, almost all of...

Tach non working on Mercury classic 50

Even if the connectors are good and are connected to the wire well, wires have been known to break inside the Insulation. You should check for continuity. To see if the Charging system is working, just connect a Volt Meter across the Battery, as the RPMs increase so will the Voltage, usually...

Tach non working on Mercury classic 50

Welcome to iboats Could be a lot of things: Broken Connection Fried Rectifier, happens when someone gets the Battery polarity wrong for even less than an Instant Improperly connected Defective Tachometer

With the intake off, you can easily remove a Lifter or 2 and check for Dishing and other indicators of Camshaft Wear.

    2 Stroke Exhaust...

At least you knew the 2 stroke was running, and that it provided some protection from Insects. While it tended to Load up after a period of low rpm, a bit of revving in Neutral would clear it out, and provide even better Insect protection

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

Hmm, the Vaccum at Idle does look a bit low, but that might be because of the Grind of the Cam, retardation of Cam and/or Spark timing. Did you Degree the Cam when you built the Engine? Also did the Timing Chain Sprockets have more than one Keyway?

    175 2 stroke wont rev past 2k

Just keep in mind, a Good Spark is one that can jump 3/8". I know that plugs are gapped much closer, but 0.030" in an atmospheric pressure many times Sea Level, is like 1/4" at Sea level. Compressed Air is a better Insulator

    2 Stroke Exhaust...

Yamaha markets some very good Outboard Oil, as does Mercury. Smoke is the last thing I worry about, besides it helps keep the Mosquitoes at bay

    Mercruiser 5.7 won’t make power

Just curious, what altitude do you do your boating? Myself the lakes I go to are between 1950 and 2400 feet above Sea Level, and it reflects in the power the engine produces, and also in the Readings on things like Vacuum Gauges

    What is this wire for?

Interesting that they cut the Wire, as a couple of inches away, are the Knife Connectors, inside the Sleeve next to the finger

    2 Stroke Exhaust...

There is a lot of Unburnt Gas and Oil that comes out in the Exhaust. Run the Motor in a Barrel for a bit and there will be plenty. However, get a Latex or Nitrile Glove and get some of that brown Liquid on it and smell it. As bad as Gas and semi burnt Oil Smell, they smell like Roses compared to...
