    That is correct.----A GM inline 6 model.------Many ( not all ) had issues with structure under the floor.----Boat appears to have been looked after.

    One way for gas to get in the oil is via a defective fuel pump.----Oh --these 4 strokes with all their hidden issues.

    Pull lower unit apart.----Some pinion gears use a circlip to position the driveshaft.----Clip might be missing / broken or rusted away.

    Is the drive coupling in place ?-----Does your system use a 2 wire ( green and blue ) or 3 wire ( green , blue and black ) on the motor ?----Is manual release valve tight ?

    Install a seal kit now.-----Cheaper than gears and bearings.----Seals wear out and could be half worn now.

    Motor slows down with choke because it is flooding.----I do not believe this is a fuel issue.----In my opinion it is a timing issue.

    New water pump impeller.----Test VRO if it is in service.----Test alarms.----Inspect the 2 thermostats / poppit valves.

    Sounds like timing issues.----Too much advance at idle.-----Did you remove entire flywheel or just the flexplate to replace trigger ?-----You are sure that the splined flywheel is installed correctly ?
