    Prop Fitment

In the late 70s Mercury made some changes to the Prop Hubs and different Thrust Washers were required. Fast Forward 40+ Years, and throw in a few more Brands of Props and it can get complicated/confusing very quickly

Outboard Carburetors leaking fuel into intake

How was the engine Winterized? There might be some Gum and Varnish gumming up some of the Carb Passages and Air Bleeds. Happens when Fuel sits a long time without being Stabilized.

Outboard Carburetors leaking fuel into intake

"2. Is this fuel leak likely associated with a low end bug with float bowls? My understanding the float bowls effect idle and low end power but once main jet is used then there is no issue" Low End Bug? The Fuel Level in the Bowls affect every aspect of a Carburetor's Performace. If the Level...

    Prop Advice

The normal way of getting on Plane is to use Full Throttle, then back off the Throttle as the boat nears the desired speed. As for propping, it is desirable to prop in the upper half of the RPM Range, but going for the max at normal load opens up the risk of over revving at light loads if...

    Safety chains are hot?

Fuses pop when they are asked to carry more current than designed for. If the Safety Cables were indeed completing the circuit, they are large enough to carry more current than the Trailer would ever use. If the Hooks or whatever attaches the Cables to the Hitch, can flop around, they could get...

1986 90hp Merc pwr of twr lower unit disassembly

At the front of the Propshaft, there is a Hole, that the shift plunger goes in to move the Clutch Dog. 3(I think) balls go in there to provide an antifriction friction surface for the Plunger when the Propshaft is spinning. This is not the case for your engine but the Propshaft assembly is...

1986 90hp Merc pwr of twr lower unit disassembly

I will assume you mean Pinion Gear, not Planetary Gear. Once the Nut holding the Gear to the Driveshaft is removed, there is nothing but some friction of the splines holding the gear on. You say you found some pieces of Bearing in the gears? How do the Teeth on all the Gear look? If the Bearings...

    Lack of power

Check the Firing Order, and verify that the Wires are going to correct Cylinder. Swapping a couple wires may or may not make a difference. However if you already have 2 swapped, 2 more can certainly kill the engine.

    Misfire diagnosis

Disconnect the Wire at the Spark Plug while engine is running, using insulated Pliers. That will show if that cylinder was firing or not

What brand of 2 stroke oil do you use for your Johnson Evinrude 2 stroke

I remember seeing that on the XD100 Label when it first came out. Last time I checked(a couple of years ago), that Caveat was no longer on the Label.

What brand of 2 stroke oil do you use for your Johnson Evinrude 2 stroke

When I owned an Outboard, I always used Oils from the Engine Manufacturers(OMC and Mercury). They are Very Good Oils and don't cost much more than a 3rd Party Oil. As for the smoke, it will help keep the Mosquitos at Bay, and I really like the Smell of Burnt TCW-* Some will argue that any Oil...

    1972 Merc 650E 3 CYL....fuel system Qs

Wires can break internally unseen. I would be very surprised to find the Insulation uncracked, on that motor, as Mercury had bought enough wire with an insulation that didn't age well, to go to the Moon and back severqal times.

Does EFI solve the hard start/cranking issue?

The Wires on the Lark went into the Exhaust Housing about 1/2 way down. If they were getting burnt, it was likely from not enough Water in the Exhaust. The Hydro-Electric case on the Triumph, would default to Forward any time there was no Power, going to the Shift Solenoids, and/or any time the...
