Running air line

I have an air compressor that I quite frequently use to air up tires and run an impact wrench. Every time I use it, I have to drag it out of the garage and lay down a very heavy extension cord, since my only outlet is at the back of the garage. I could buy a very long air hose, but I'd like to...

    Torque Wrench Preferences

I have an old beam torque wrench - one of those with the long pointer that extends from the business end back to the handle where the guage is. When torquing, the shaft flexes but not the pointer which moves across the guage to indicate torque. Although satisfactory for old cast-iron work, I...

    Reactivation of stored motor

All the corrosion discussion on another thread has me somewhat intimidated. Instead of hijacking that thread, I thought I'd start another.

I'll be dismantling my motor soon to replace water pump, rebuild carbs, do ignition work as necessary, etc. Even though it ran like a...

    North and South Football

    WOMEN'S ACCESSORIES
North: Chap stick in back pocket and a $20 bill in the front pocket.
South: Louis Vuitton duffel with two lipsticks, water-proof mascara, and a
fifth of bourbon. Money not necessary that's what dates are for.

STADIUM SIZE
North: College...

    hot plugs vs. cold plugs

This is a spin-off inspired by a thread on Johnson/Evinrude forum. What exactly is the difference in hot vs. cold plugs. I mean, they both get the same voltage; the recommended gap is the same with both, timing is the same. What exactly is the difference? Inquiring minds need to know these...

    2-4 stroke

A previous post about gearboxes brought a question to my mind that I've been wondering about (not about gearboxes). Has anyone experimented with a 2-stroke hybrid. One that burned gas only (no oil) but an otherwise 2-stroke fuel system, and used a lubrication system like 4-strokes? Just...

    J/E Service Manuals

An OMC manual for a 1977 35hp Johnson motor appeared on eBay today. Even though mine's an Evinrude(same hp and year), I believe it's the same for this model and year. In trying to determine what I'd be willing to pay, I consulted the Ken Cook site. I noticed that the Evinrude service manuals...

    Paint thinning

Getting ready to spray-paint my boat trailer sometime in next couple of days. Prep work is almost finished. I'm using a siphon-feed spray gun with a 30 gal. compressor. I'll be using Valspar Anti-Rust which is very similar to Rust-Oleum. I have sprayed before but many years ago. I know if...

    Stupid me

I should have asked this first, but I just received the parts manual I bought on eBay. It's for a 1977 Johnson 25/35hp. I actually have a 1977 Evinrude 35hp. Johnson and Evinrude used their own unique model designations for the same motor. Are the part numbers the same, or does each use a...

    Evinrude differences

    Will a manual for a 1976 Evinrude 35hp (Models 35602, 35603) suffice for repairing a 1977 35hp (model 35702)? Were these 1976 and 1977 35hp models similar?

Trailer hardware - course vs. fine

I am replacing all the nuts, bolts, washers, etc. on my trailer with stainless. Every old, rusted bolt I have removed, so far, is UNF fine thread. At my ACE hardware, stainless fine thread hardware is quite a bit more expensive than course thread. Does anyone know if there is a compelling...

    1956 Johnson wiring

I am considering buying a 1956 Johnson 30 h.p as a project motor. It is on eBay as a RDE-18E. I cannot find any reference to that model. I've only found RDE-18. It may be a mis-print or typo. This motor has no wiring harness with it. Does anyone know if the '56 and '57 wiring harnesses...

    Need finish help for TNT

I've hesitated to post here, since I have so many questions I don't know where to begin. I built a Glen-L TNT some 15-16 years ago, to about 90% complete. I'd now like to finish it. All this work was done pre-internet and available resources were few.

The construction was...

    Tire question

I recently purchased a pair of Nanco tires. I haven't gotten them mounted yet because I wanted to paint the rims. I noticed that they are load range C with recommended pressure of 90 PSI. Isn't this pressure dangerously high?

    Horsepower rating change

I have searched the past posts and have found that there is about 15% disparity between the old horsepower ratings (powerhead) and the new ratings (prop). What I was unable to find was when this rating change occurred. Anyone know the year?

    Other fuel uses

This is a bit off-topic and it may get canned, but here goes. Does anyone out there rob their outboard fuel between outings to refuel their 40:1 weedeaters, leaf blowers, chain saws, etc; or is TCW-3 not good for these small engines. If it's OK, it just might cut down my trips to the gas station.

    Boat cushions

My boat is old and has the typical bench front and rear seat. The original seat cushions (long gone)were simply upholstered rectangles which lay on the seat portion of the bench. The seat backs (also long gone) actually snapped to the bench back. Soon I plan to have an upholsterer fabricate...

    Trailer Touch-up

I had my trailer sand blasted and primed about 14-15 years ago. I then sprayed it with Glidden Rustmaster. It has held up great except for the normal dings, scrapes, scratches.

I would now like to touch up those. I plan to wire-brush to remove any spot rust. Now comes decision...
