    If it was a SUZUKI built 4 stroke there is no timing belt at the top !!----They used a timing chain under the engine block.

    There is a different part # for the 6 and 8 HP block.----Intake ports might be smaller.---But post the number you find on the high speed jet.----Easy to tell the difference if motor was on my workbench.___Earlier 6 hp models did not use a water cooled exhaust cover.----Earlier 6 HP had 2 reed...

    This motor is a 2 stroke.----I can't believe that some folks cannot tell the difference.----Install a new water pump impeller.----Determine if oil injection is in service and working correctly.----Post compression test values here.

    Gears / bearings / lower unit parts are very expensive if available.-----Install a seal kit.----Use 2 -o-rings on the shift rod.

    What issue is there with orientation of the magplate.-----In my opinion you can look at it and say ---" this is how it fits "-----As it only fits one way !

    Up to 81 were a 3 wire motor.-----82 and newer used a 2 wire motor.-----Both will fit your outboard.-----Just need all the wiring bits for the style you find.

    The 2 wire motor used relays.----The 3 wire motor used a solenoid for up motion.

    That system is newer that what came on a 79 model 70 HP.-------You need the solenoid for a 3 wire system or relays for a 2 wire motor.

    That boat would work well with a 33 HP ( 1965 to 1970 ) or 40 HP from the 60's.-----But if $$ are not an issue put a new motor on it.-----I am rebuilding a 1974 Johnson 40 HP for the grand son as it is a simple / reliable motor for occasional use.
