    Take the covers off.---Inspect parts.------Replace diaphragm and gaskets for the covers.

    There is a vent hole in some covers.----It allows the poppit diaphragm to move.----If water leaks out ,the diaphragm has a hole or is not sealed properly.

    Did you get an alarm on this Suzuki motor ?------Check lower unit oil.-----Check engine oil level ?----Did motor hit a submerged object ?

    In 1970 they had the tiny red warning light on top of the control box.----Nobody can look at the control box all day.----In 1971 they installed the horn.

    Ignition parts is the least of worry.----Those gearcases are NOT robust in my opinion.----Ask seller about gearcase maintenance history.----Do a compression test.

    I have never had to test a water pump with a drill in over 50 years.----When you are test running the motor is water 8" above the impeller ?

    Make sure the carburetor high speed jets are clean.-----They are inside the carburetor bowls.
