    My block is drained, right?

Not sure what they changed when they went to the Vortec heads and manifolds, but yes this has to be drained and there was actually a TSB put out indicating that. On my old pre-Vortec, the manifold just drains with the cyl heads....if I had to guess, it might be that since they had eliminated the...

    Fuel starvation conundrum

I recall seeing the Project Farm guy and one of the other small engine guys on you tube (Teradactyl with the fake teeth lol) doing that when testing stabilizers. I think it would burn because the engine always started right up like always. Starts, idles, and revs in neutral. But wouldn't plane...

OMC 4.3 V6 dry joint "batwing" conversion exhaust kit

Here's an old pic when I changed to the last set of Batwings I used, in 6/2011, the ones I took off were on there since 2004, you can see there's no rust in the exhaust ports, the rust on the head is from the gasket holding moisture against it. I guess I got lucky lol. Inboard exhaust to me is...

OMC 4.3 V6 dry joint "batwing" conversion exhaust kit

Here's a few tips, because the clearances on the starboard side are tight, put a little silicone grease inside the rubber hoses (silicone grease doesn't degrade rubber like regular grease) it will make it easier to get it all lined up right. What I usually do is slide the lower hoses on the Y...

    Fuel starvation conundrum

I actually did the other day when I scoped the manifolds. Boat ran prefect with the outboard tank so I felt it had to be fuel related….

    My block is drained, right?

Agreed, I would do that just to improve the odds so to speak. One nice thing about having the Sierra PG stuff and the refractometer, is I can mix up custom batches of AF for just such a situation that are stronger in AF concentration. My usual mix is 50/50 with water and that gives approx -30*F...

OMC 4.3 V6 dry joint "batwing" conversion exhaust kit

I used one set of the Batwings from 2004-2011, at that point one of the 4 outlets was clogging with rust so I replaced them and ran the next set to 2016, at that point, I had the leaky head gasket adventure that resulted in a top engine overhaul (cyl heads, etc). At that point there were no more...

OMC 4.3 V6 dry joint "batwing" conversion exhaust kit

That's exactly what I was thinking of, there's a 7*, 10*(?) and 14*, after thinking the whole thing though I felt it was less trouble to use what I know would work. Also there's the relative heights of the outlet of the elbow, above the mounting points, there is really no way to know if it would...

OMC 4.3 V6 dry joint "batwing" conversion exhaust kit

I thought of that when I converted mine back in 2017, but I thought there could be slight dimensional differences that might cause leaks. So I went with the Barr OMC/Volvo wet joint with the VP 90* down pipes and rubber hoses. Fit fine no leaks…I think I’d have to be able to borrow a...

    My block is drained, right?

Thinking back I did it that way this year (block drains first) and a lot came out of both sides. To fill it took close to 2 gallons for the block only. Those little picks do help...

    My block is drained, right?

What I’ve done is open the block drains first, before removing that big hose at the bottom of the water pump, because that shows you if the drain on either side is clogged….

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

Eaton's Neck Long Island with the Connecticut coast in the far distance. I don't take the bowrider in LI Sound unless the conditions are perfect. Even with the bow cover on!

Closest I get to that is Long Island Sound which is between Connecticut and Long Island about 9-12 miles across where I am located.

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

I think Lpgc is on rivers in the UK which I'd think is mostly fresh water although not sure of past use of the boat, whereas I am truly in 100% coastal salt water. So when I pull the 'stat housing to check the intake (because just like manifolds and elbows, in salt water they can rust through)...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

When I did mine years ago it was about 80 degrees out and that stuff expanded like the movie the BLOB. I did it before laying down the deck and cut it flush with a hand saw. Worked out just fine.....still solid 18 years later.
