2012 3.0L TKS runs great with muffs, but slow on lake...

Doesn't sound nuts...sounds electrical. Though could also be that the carb is fueling differently because of the angle. Any change when hitting a wake? Have you checked spark at speed? Rereading the thread I see that the spark was checked at idle, but not under load? I'm broken record about...

thinking of a Delco EST ignition system conversion but have a few concerns....

Huh, you have points? I'd stick with them. Throw a spare set in the toolbox and you won't be stranded on the water. Assuming you can get a pertronix or something for the OMC though if you wanted to? Or even convert to a TB IV if you find a used setup...

2012 3.0L TKS runs great with muffs, but slow on lake...

Yes shutters=flappers. Maybe time to throw a vacuum gauge on it? Could show some subtle problems. It would also show an exhaust restriction, which might be tough to diagnose otherwise

    Stupid me, no oil

I had a hard time finding ones that had enough thread on them to cut down. Online the shipping and minimums were a killer. I ended up stacking like 20 washers on each bolt with the intention of doing it right at some point LOL...Classy!

    Stupid me, no oil

They actually just offered me a $20 discount on a new one, while blaming me for the corrosion. Interestingly the new ones are SS and they don't sell aluminum now, so obviously I'm not the only one with the problem. I may get another, because it was fun to have and they seem to be the only...

    Stupid me, no oil

FYI, Hardin told me to go pound sand and they don't warranty anything against corrosion. Also, went through about a 1/2 qt oil so far this season. Very small amount in bilge, but I'll take it as a win.

    Carb tuning

I've tried changing the holes on the linkage with zero effect, so that's interesting. Of course I don't remember if this has always been present or just since the big dunk.

    Carb tuning

FWIW, that first tune is what I first went with and it was CRAZY lean. Also, IIRC the factory weber has 3 step metering rods vs the 2 with the 1409. Interesting. Mine has been doing that for a while, only bothers me when trying to pull a skier. Have been planning on taking it apart, but maybe...

Help with early 80s mercruiser 140hp

Checking timing, points and compression is very basic troubleshooting. Sounds like you've eyeballed 2 out of 3, so they're almost certainly off

    End of Season oil changes?

I always intend to do it at the end of the season, and then end up doing it right before I'm trying to launch.

    Oil Pressure Sender failure modes?

Just to close this out. As promised, this was just a boredom/curious related thread. Haven't had a problem since I swapped out the sender. Finally got around to cutting open the old one. Looks like yet another victim of my boat's dunking (will the problems from that ever go away?). Most of that...

    Flux Marine Outboard Engines . . .

Love the vineyard. used to go there often a long time ago, lived on Chappaquiddick for 6 months, waited tables at the Edgartown yacht club. we used to "borrow" dingies to get home since the bars closed after the ferry stopped running. yup, the Nantucket NIMBYs were who I was talking about.
