    If they are original from 2006 and used in brackish water, they should have been replaced at least 8 years ago! I change mine every 5-7 years depending on the hours I have put on it each season. Barr exhaust is good, just make sure to check the flatness of the sealing surfaces.

    I don’t use the studs; I installed marine grade battery clamps on the terminals of the cables; this allows you to use the large terminals on the battery….

    Ever checked the plugs for water intrusion from the water cooled exhaust? The only time I had starting troubles with my 4.3 was when the head gaskets started leaking and I had a bit of water in 2 cyls.

    Yep you don't have to tighten them with a dying strain, it's not like a lug bolt on a car it is just to seal out water.     Cables can corrode under the insulation and if you don't peel it back you'll never know, unless you can measure the resistance of the cable.

    I made one of those almost 20 years ago, used it for a while then as I got older (lol) I could rationalize the very nice one from Stumpy's. I use my old wood one to store my spare Cobra in the garage.

    How old are your coldest anticipated temperatures? If zero or colder I’d have used -100. Go on to www.westmarine.com they have a good article about which antifreeze to use for your climate.

    Does the engine have power steering and/or a fuel cooler? If so they may need to be drained unless the one point drain also drains them which should be the case. My brother’s 2020 Merc had this set up and when we filled it with -100 AF after draining the AF filled the engine & came out the water...

    Well that might be all you can get from that size engine in a 22’ boat. Mines 20’9”with a pre Vortec 4bbl, WOT is about the same. I weighed my boat & it’s a bit over 4,000 lbs.
