    Yes, oil pan should be lowered instead of cutting the gasket,especially if a one piece neoprene type ,you need 3 feet in front to do the cam Intake manifold off, valve covers off, loosen and remove push rods, pull lifters out , timing chain and cam gear.

    A few things to check remove dist cap, bring balancer to the 0 mark , watch rotor and turn motor backwards. Note how many degrees before the rotor moves. This will determine how much slack is in the tining chain and gears. Next verify #1 TDC . TDC and timing mark on balancer should agree. If not...
