I noticed I had milky oil when I checked dipstick. Last thing I did was clean the riser and replaced gasket. It never overheated. Ughhh

I just went through this with mine, same motor. I changed the oil, put in the cheapest oil I could find and added sea foam. Ran it at the dock five minutes and dumped the oil again. Put in fresh good oil and filter. What mine was the exhaust flapper was shot allowing the inrush of the water into...

    A question on exhaust flaps 1989 Stern Drive 4.3 [ 432APRMED ]

Just installed new one in my MerCruiser. The old one was hanging down, open. The new one stays shut till there is water, and exhaust pushing it open. Mine had water intrusion issue and everything checked out fine till I found that. Water would inrush when slowing down from tubing/skiing. After...

    Battery Died

The parts store can load test your alternator and battery if you bring them in. If either is bad they will tell you. Always replace those parts with Marine rated parts.

Well, I installed the new flapper, the old one was stiff but in place, wouldn’t close at all. Took it for half hour ride stopping from full throttle quickly and various speeds. Oil still clear. The real test next weekend on the 4th weekend when the kids run it hard and put it away wet! Lol. I...

What to use to patch hole on hull of Aluminum Boat

It sure looks like a bullet hole being not centered on the strake. I’d have a welder touch it up As it’s below the water line. on my duck boat, it has bullet holes from before I bought it. But mine are above the water line. The po sealed them with tar and a screw. Maby I’ll fix them properly...

What to use to patch hole on hull of Aluminum Boat

Put up a picture of the damage. Other than that, taking it to a good aluminum welding shop is the best option. kind of hard to figure out what you have going without a pic or two.

    Inboard/ I/O Engine Hoist Ideas?

looks like a good setup/ He said the weak link is the pully but, I think the upper chain hooks on the beam need to be true welded loops. The ones on there are chain link's and can bend.

    Blister repair .

Ah, didn’t know that it was all glass. Good to know. Yeah the blisters will be an easier fix, but as suggested, bottom paint is a good idea.

    Blister repair .

Boats have wood structure under the glass. You can test it by drilling small holes in the stringer about a 5/16" drill bit will work. Go in about 1/2" and see if the wood shavings are black and mushy, if so, the wood is rotted. If the shavings come out dry and clean, its good. Seal the holes...

Those welding torch cleaners work sort of, they can damage the hole you are checking and cleaning. That's what they are designed for, cleaning torch tips.

Mercruiser Sterndrive Gear Oil Leaking by Prop

yes, that is the shift shaft seal I mentioned. They make a tool for that also, common place to have a leak. You can pressure check it by holding your finger over the quad ring hole and pressurizing it, 15 lbs is all you need for testing. good to have a helper but I do it regularly by myself...

Mercruiser Sterndrive Gear Oil Leaking by Prop

With the oil drained, pressure check the drive first. spritz of soapy water will show you where it’s leaking. Shift shaft is rather common on those, easy fix if that’s all it is.

14 foot jon boat with 8 hp motor almost plane.

i have an 8 hp on my 10 footer. It’s rated for 10. Always wanted to put a ten on it but the 8 makes it move along quickly with just me in the boat. I’ve had this boat in Canada and many lakes in the states, with two onboard it’s not too bad either. Never a fan of fishtails on the motor myself...
