    Radio Antenna Question . . .

Greetings, The radio reception on my boat is marginal at best. So, my pre-season punch list includes doing something to enhance the radio reception without a whole lot of fuss, since I have quite a few others things on the punch list. Anyway - I pulled the head unit out for a look and as I...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

CAT engines came in around 2012 (ish). My boat, being a 2016, has the Mercury (Mercruiser) in-house built 6.2L engines with the CATs. The engines/outdrives are the SeaCore option, which includes stainless steel engine mounts and full closed cooling. So, it is a similar set-up to how I had...

Help identifying which 454/ 7.4L engine this is?

Based on the valve covers it is either the Gen 5 or the Gen 6. It would be better if it was the Gen 6. The engine serial number will be important to further ID the engine. Obviously a carbureted version & raw water cooled.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Yes, it has the O2 sensors, both before and after the CATs.

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Yes, I'm not in love with the technology. I bought the boat for the layout, but being a newer boat, it comes with all the techno-stuff. Some of it is OK, but other things. . . I probably won't ever use. Axius? I have no use for it. Not even sure what it does, but I think it is autopilot...

1962 Chris Craft Holiday 20’ bucket list resto

Nice work on the motor stand. When I had my Merc 454 out of the boat, I just threw a couple of cinder blocks on a dolly for the engine to rest on and hoped that it did not take off when I started it :ROFLMAO:

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Sorry Captain, but no impellers/pump in the outdrives. No pee hole either. The phosphoric acid soak & flush on the sea water side of the cooling system took care of the water pressure issue. This boat has been salted water since the day it was born, so 7 years and I bet the heat...

    Bravo 1 low water pressure

OK . . . the additional detail is helpful. First thing is . . . I don't think there is a problem as long as you are getting some pressure and not running hot at any range of speed. Keep in mind that when the engine is cold, and the thermostat is closed, essentially the 'volume' of water...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

OK - looking better . . I found a working laptop and loaded the software up. Here are/were the codes. . Probably attributed to the first start of the season. I'm thinking the 'port' and 'starboard' references in the 2 codes are fuel rail references, not engines, since this was connected to...

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Meanwhile . . . The descaling has helped the port engine cooling flow. It is still cranky about the fuel system. Just got to load the Diacom to another laptop and see what I got for code(s). Starboard Engine (happy) . Port Engine (cranky) . Useless V-V messages .

Yes . . . I do know him. He is scrounging up another laptop as we speak

    My boat is being a boat . . .

Greetings, A little venting session. . . . I started my annual ritual of getting the boat ready for its seasonal launching. Winter cover comes off Batteries look OK Initial starting of the engines. VesselView says Starboard is OK - Starts up, water flowing, oil & temperature are...

Oil change interval, synthetic or no, curious what we all do

Synthetic will get you 10K miles or more. Dino maybe about 6K max . . . The F-150 with the turbos probably will appreciate the synthetic. Even though the syn oil costs more, it is less than replacing turbos or having an engine rebuild.

    Blistering paint on lower unit

Not sure why you would leave the motor tilted down in the lake over the winter, or even at all. One of the main purposes of an outboard motor is that you can/should tilt them up out of the water when not in use.

    Bravo 1 low water pressure

Just found the OP's boat/engine on a prior thread . . . 2011 Crownline 21SS with a 6.2L 377 MAG w/cats, Bravo 1, S/N is 1A645849 Also do you have closed cooling or 'standard' cooling? I'm guessing closed cooling based on the Popeye valve :D

    Bravo 1 low water pressure

The OP mentioned that this is the first year of the CAT engines, so guessing around 2012-23 . Bravo 1 does not have much to do with it, unless it is Bravoitis. Yes . . . engine & serial number would be good. BTW - I'm fighting with the port engine . . . similar thing . . . low water pressure.

    F-150 Transmission Issues (I think? . . . No, I thought )

Thanks guys. I know that if I take it to a transmission shop, that they will just replace the transmission with a re-built one and about $6K later the problem should be solved. :ROFLMAO: If it was a daily driver, then that would be my best option. However, I only use the truck a few times a...

How to actually BOOK a flight online?

I've had a bad experience or two booking airlines, etc through the third party booking (expedia, orbitz, etc.) I always book through the airlines. It is a little more $$$, but if you run into a problem the customer service aspects are better if you booked through the airline. Also, as far as...

    Cooling system question

Got any pictures of the engine installed that you can post? Keep in mind that the only water new (cool) water gets into the engine is for the existing (warm/hot) water to exit through the risers. the thermostat opening decides how much water recirculates through the engine vs. how much exits...
