Fuel water separator 2000 200hp Saltwater series 2 stroke

If you’re not seeing any water & the gas is clear & clean I think what you’re using is good enough, I go thru the same thought process of using something “better” but it looks like we don’t have a “problem” to “fix”! Lol I do the same thing the gas from the filter goes in the lawnmower! BTW I DO...

    Winterizing Twin Cobra's

The way I look at it….raw cast iron & steel rust VERY fast in damp climates. I spray the leaf springs on the trailer with corrosion x several times a year; my springs never rust to bits like so many do here. So I fill the engine & manifolds. Still running the original short block & intake...

    Winterizing Twin Cobra's

The great debate 1)Some drain & leave it dry 2)Some drain & fill with AF to reduce corrosion of raw cast iron exposed to air I do mine as in # 2 Manual drain poke drains to make sure it really drains. Disconnect bottom end of J hose up front & let drain. Put gasket sealer on threads of drain...

    Replacement Oil Filters

I think the original filters on these was an AC PF52. Anything that crosses to that from Wix or Purolator would be fine.

    Old gas in 2024

When my boat was out of the water for a year and a half for various repairs (engine, carb, fiberglass) I wound up burning off 2.5 year old gas that was stabilized & fresh fuel added. My old carbed engine just burned it up! Checked for water in the fuel & it was fine. Not saying this is ideal...

Recommended oil for 05 Volvo Penta 5.0gxi e

I’ve said this before but it’s worth repeating…if you have oil OCD like most of us can have sometimes do an oil analysis that will answer your question as to whether or not the oil you are using is adequate to protect the engine. It’s all about the difference in marine use vs automotive...

Recommended oil for 05 Volvo Penta 5.0gxi e

Look for the S-- rating that is for Gas, the C-- rating is Diesel

Recommended oil for 05 Volvo Penta 5.0gxi e

Most 15/40 oils are dual certified for both gas & diesel. If you have a roller camshaft the engine isn’t that fussy about oil the main issue is oil temperature & viscosity shearing after a long run on plane. If your oil pressure doesn’t drop below 20 psi after a run on plane & you’re not hearing...

Fuel water separator and fuel filter on 3L

Can’t use the clear bowl on an inboard only outboards but still can drain it without removing the filter. If you’re getting that much water the tank needs to be cleaned out & the cap & fuel fill checked for leaks.

Fuel water separator and fuel filter on 3L

The last time I checked the price of a Racor for my filter mount (OMC) they were about $35, the Sierra ones are about $10 each, and the BRP ones are about $30, only a bit cheaper than the Racor. The Racor full kit filter + Bowl for the OMC mount is $73 currently.

Water penetration in Alpha 1 sterndrive

When you took it to the mechanic did he actually pull the drive to check the D/S bellows?

Fuel water separator and fuel filter on 3L

Whenever I dump my filters I have never seen water probably because all we can get is E10 fuel, so whatever water is present is passing through with the fuel and not enough to cause phase separation. I've used both Sierra and Evinrude/BRP standard filters with no problems over the years...

Fuel water separator and fuel filter on 3L

if you want it all you need is the complete Racor for inboards that fits the Mercruiser filter head. they are a pain to take apart, but they can hold a lot more water than the standard style ones.

What to look for before reinstalling a 4.3 engine

Carefully check the exhaust Y pipe and power steering actuator for leaks. You want to fix that now when you can easily get at them! If access for the starter isn’t good with the engine installed, install a new starter on the engine when it’s out. Check the coupler carefully & replace if in doubt.,

Fuel water separator and fuel filter on 3L

They absolutely do make them for boats; they make them in sizes to fit the Mercury, OMC or Volvo filter mount. The only thing is that it has to be the one that is UL certified for inboard engine compartments, with the metal bowl instead of the plastic bowl. The filter element (the bowl is...

Fuel water separator and fuel filter on 3L

Everyone might not agree but I have heard from some mechanics that the only “true” water separating filter is the Racor. They do cost a LOT more but if you’ve had a water problem it might well be worth it esp with EFI.

Oil dipstick question for 4.5 owners, which way around?

Interesting point about the measurement marks supposed to be facing the rear toward the flywheel. Looking at the parts diagram for the newer Merc 4.5 they changed the design of the tube; instead of attaching to the outside of the pan it goes into the the pan more like an automotive design. I bet...
