    My Evinrude 1986 30 hp and the Evinrude 1999 9.9 hp have both been on 100 to : 1 since 2010. I fish all summer every day. Retired. I use the cheap Ace Hardware 2 stroke oil. My oily spark plugs Stopped. When I put in a new and tested thermostat in a pot of heated water on my stove.

    Two yr. Head scratcher, need help

    Somebody has connected the Enrichment / Choke flexible hoses incorrectly. I did that on my Evinrude . Took a while to figure out. Called my O B chief mechanic. 1 minute Cell Phone call, he guided me on the correct hookup. First time.

    Does the motor have a true choke lever ? A Choke Squirter ? Do you use the choke system ? Back to a cold engine with a non working thermostat. Lean Idle adjustment ?

    Could be a problem with the TRANSITION stage . as Chris suggested. Or a gasket causing a vacuum leak in the carburetor.. Do Chris way first. People lean out the idle adjustment mixture screw too lean sometimes. Save .15 cents per year ?

    A defective thermostat WILL WILL drive you crazy with rough idle and bogging down in low speed drive. Pull the spark plugs . They should look brand new. Are they the CORRECT ones in a specification check ? You will need a GAPPING tool to check the gap & possible readjust ...ONLY the thick bent...

    Check and adjust the AUTOMATIC CHOKE system. Carburetor or F I. It is normally done with a cold engine.
