    Axius Joystick Question . . .

Quick Update . . . I was able to verify a delayed shifting of the Port outdrive. It does not like to go into forward gear unless the rev's get up to about 1,000. It goes into reverse just fine. So, the maneuvers that work with the joystick are the ones that require port reverse, which is yaw...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2 ECT - long beep every few minutes???

The starboard engine keeps finding things to complain about . . . . . Not sure what or why . . . but after reaching the harbor the warning went away and the engine status when back to OK all by itself. I was out in the bay (went to get fuel) and maybe the starboard engine thought we were...

How Much Voltage Drop Is Too Much?

The voltages sound low. A battery, in good condition and 'at rest' should read about 12.6 volts. With the engine running (i.e. alternator charging) the voltages should be in the 13.5 - 14.5 range. You may get some voltage loss at the helm, but 1+ volts seems excessive. It may be time to...

Risers - think I caught this just in time?

As you probably know by now . . . the dry joint manifold/riser sets that you have are not likely to leak water into the exhaust chamber (thus the term 'dry joint'). Nice job in cleaning them up. The only other thing (chemical) I would recommend for cleaning up the rust is oxallic acid (wood...

Mercruiser Alpha One Gen I Winterization

I thought we weren't allowed to speak of winterization until October 1st? :ROFLMAO:

    Ideal tongue weight?

It looks like you have some room to move the bow stop/pillar forward to gain the tongue weight desired. You may not need to go all the way to 10% (420 ish lbs.) Is there enough support at the stern/transom area (bunks. . . right?)

BRP reveals a new style of outboard, Rotax powered, horizontal crankshaft....

I looked at the info on these engines . . . pretty wild, sitting in the water like that 🤪 What the deal with Rotax Engines? different 'tech' or physics, or what? Sure looks about the same as other engines

Outboard dies after a minute or two of running?

Check . . . Fuel pick-up in the fuel tank Fuel lines - both from the fuel tank and the small section of line around the engine. Fuel filters - both external and there may be a fuel filer/screen in the carburetor(s) The issue sounds like fuel starvation and that is a terrible way to die. :LOL...

Any tips to keeping your boat clean with engine work?

I think there is some mildly sticky plastic that automotive painters use for masking. That will prevent hand prints on the fiberglass and vinyl . . . best to make sure it is compatible with the vinyl though.

    Can't identify model?

Not sure knowing the model will be of any help finding parts. Many parts in boats are generic, and not brand/model specific. Of course being almost 50 years old, probably not much in existence that would be an exact match. You may have to improvise. Have you looked on the Fiberglassics.com...

    Happiest Day of Ownership !!!

I may take the boat out of the water in a couple of weeks for some mid-season maintenance. In preparation, I made some tweaks to the trailer bunks to get the boat to sit a little lower, which will make it easier to launch and retrieve. The trailer was set up according to the boat and was a...

1990 ish Evinrude 25 HP - Screeching from the controls

Quick Update . . . The engine seems to be fine today . . . so maybe there was some mud or something stuck in the cooling system. But I ran the boat for about 10 minutes including some high speed runs and everything worked fine. I'm glad I don't have to do anything for now . . . already got...

Water in bilge? Bilge pump runs too often.

My guesses are . . . 1) rotting transom 2) corroding Y-pipe or related gasket 3) shift cable bellows clip missing 4) cooling system leak Is there a prize for the 'winner' ?

    Axius Joystick Question . . .

These engines are actually the in-house designed & built Mercury 6.2 engine, but I have not done much research on them. https://www.boats.com/reviews/mercruiser-debuts-an-all-new-6-2l-v8-inboard-and-sterndrive-marine-engine/ The 8.2's are (still) the GM 502 block
