Marine Carpet Glue For Wood Decking

Yes that can work if you have the ability to get the boat inside so it dries out. Outside even under a good cover it will stay damp at least in this climate. No one around here had barns or garages big enough for boats. It’s just how it is.

Very easy to remove those nuts. To pull the manifolds you have to spray silicone spray on the Y pipe & slide the bottom hoses down over the Y pipe. Might have to shove a thin screwdriver under the rubber & heat it a bit with a heat gun to get ‘em loose they kinda get baked on…. The down pipe is...

Marine Carpet Glue For Wood Decking

What’s your climate? Here a wood deck built off your house even if made of cedar lasts like 15 years most of it if not all will need to be replaced. Seaside area more or less constant moisture . That, termite’s & carpenter ants love the moisture. I don’t trailer miles to use the boat it’s is...

IIRC I paid back in 2017: Barr Kit $725 Each of those VP down pipes was like $210, the hoses & clamps maybe another $100 (these were all brand new), so it was like $1250 for all the parts. If you’re in fresh water you’ll do this once; here in the salt pond we have to change manifolds & elbows...

Marine Carpet Glue For Wood Decking

The carpet holds moisture for an extended period of time if you can’t put the boat in a garage or barn. When I ripped up the carpet the boat had been covered over the winter the whole area under the rear seats was still soaked. 1) polyester resin really isn’t waterproof it if it was boats...

    1988 OMC 4.3 2V - Leaking Manifolds

Yep that’s what you need. When you install the gaskets between the manifold & elbow follow the manufacturer’s instructions as to whether you need sealer or not & torque specs. Volvo actually revised their gaskets a few times. I used the Barr gaskets with no problems.

    1988 OMC 4.3 2V - Leaking Manifolds

Yep that’s what you need. When you install the gaskets between the manifold & elbow follow the manufacturer’s instructions as to whether you need sealer or not & torque specs. I re-torqued mine after running it for a while….

    2015 Motor MerCruiser 4.5L 250hp NO EC - OVERHEATING!

BTW I had trouble with some of those dual inlet muffs because the rubber was too stiff to seal well against the lower unit. I had much better luck with the Mercury/Quicksilver round muffs with the metal clamp.

    1988 OMC 4.3 2V - Leaking Manifolds

Before I invested $$$ I’d make sure that the block isn’t cracked. Look way down in the area above the oil pan (in front of the starter on the starboard side & in front of the oil dipstick tube on the port side) for rust stains….if it’s OK… those Batwings were used from 1985-1990, after that OMC...

Marine Carpet Glue For Wood Decking

Screws for seat pedestals, 6 screws per pedestal. Rot also started under the rear seat boxes due to moisture getting back there and carpet keeps it from evaporating. Carpet was glued down.... and ALL the dark spots in the old deck I ripped up 15+ years ago, started wherever there was a screw...

4.3 runs great for about 30 minutes then bogs, pops won't accelerate

The part that makes you appear cocky, is this simply put: you don't read a Merc shop manual....in the days before the instant advice internet, THAT, was how you learned, and it's still the best way, if you take the time to do so. And nobody here is looking over your shoulder to see how you're...

    5.7L Non-Vortec to Vortec conversion

Valvoline ZR-1 has a very high level of zinc, in a 20/50 weight it should be great for a flat tappet engine.

    5.7L Non-Vortec to Vortec conversion

thanks for the info, you just confirmed what I've been thinking of when I have to repower, go local. Between mistakes and shipping costs, it makes more sense. I can rent a U-Haul to pick up an engine for way less than what shipping costs.

    2015 Motor MerCruiser 4.5L 250hp NO EC - OVERHEATING!

Just to show how different systems are from one another, on my old OMC/Volvo style cooling system here are the normal temps: engine warmed up at idle speed: with dash gauge reading 160* and a 160* thermostat.... top of thermostat housing, 135*, intake manifold right under where the stat housing...

Thanks to All Dodge for info on how these newer systems work and glad you’re getting better results. Hope the water test goes well. BTW the deposits you see in an engine that’s been run in the salt are actually calcium more so than salt which dissolves easily in water. This is what I saw in my...

Marine Carpet Glue For Wood Decking

Mine was built that way & what happened after about 15 years it rotted wherever the seat mounting screws went through. When I redid it I had the shop gel coat it in non skid gel coat & all seat mounting screws sealed with 4200. 15 years later it’s still solid. So no carpet for me in a boat...

You can see that the outlets on these are pretty small, I had them on my 4.3 as well, after 5.5 seasons in salt water they looked like the one on the right. I had 3 sets of these on my '88 4.3 here in the salt you have to change them every 5-7 years, or else, you have overheats, or a hydrolock...
