VP SX-M Trim Hose replacement without pulling drive?

I would use a thread chaser rather than a tap; I think it’s safer. Also don’t fear pulling the drive & pivot housing; a very important job on these is replacing the drive shaft bellows & both need to come off to do that. I did the bellows on my Cobra which is very similar to the SX & it just...

    Quicksilver 5W30 for all sterndrives

In the case of I/Os I think the main causes of engine failure are under maintained cooling & exhaust systems…overheating & water intrusion. Oil is probably a cause only when you have a dramatic failure like a blown remote oil filter hose or rotted thru oil pan. That said I won’t use an oil that...

    PDF Service manual for 4.5L

A relative has the 200 hp version of this in a 2020 Chap, they run well with more than enough power. The only things negative I have heard is warnings/check engine lights associated with the O2 sensors if you have cat converter exhaust. If you look at parts diagrams, compare the old GM 4.3 to...

    Quicksilver 5W30 for all sterndrives

It is a full syn, maybe they think that means it is OK. V/P used to specify a full syn 10w/40. I think it maybe ok in outboards since they tend to spec lighter weight oils, the old style GM marine inboards tend to shear down lighter oils more so I'd stick with 25/40, or even 20/50 for those. I...

'92 7.4 Carburetor Accelerator Pump Not Working

If the engine was not started for months the float bowl was likely empty (evaporation) and it takes some cranking over to fill the bowl enough for the accel pump to have anything to squirt. The best way is to take it all apart, carefully clean all the passages and re-assemble with new gaskets. I...

'92 7.4 Carburetor Accelerator Pump Not Working

I think you're confusing the primary throttle system with the secondary throttle system, the secondaries will not squirt out fuel till the load on the engine demands it (usually they are vacuum operated, when the vacuum drops the secondaries will open). They work like the secondaries on a...

    Mercruiser 4.3 oil gauge mystery

That sounds like the best you could do; in the manual it said to check gauge first if it’s good then replace sending unit if the reading isn’t normal; doesn’t even have a procedure to test the OP gauge.

1990 4.3 block and 1995 heads, which rocker tightening specs to follow?

Here’s how I did mine… PS I found it easier to judge when the lash was at zero by trying to lift the pushrod up and down ,vs turning it. Also, mark the cyl #s and Intakes and Exhausts with a piece of tape so you don't get confused.

IIRC there was a procedure in my OMC shop manual for testing these if I can find it I’ll post it

I did see some fuel squirted out not sure if that amount is normal for a Weber 4 bbl or not.

    Exhaust Bellows 0914036 Replacement

They have been like this since like the second year of production; the idea with the slits is to reduce back pressure at idle when in the water.

    Exhaust Bellows 3.0 cobra

When you do the D/S bellows on the Cobra, note that the bellows is asymmetrical; the side with more folds goes down, which helps it to not crack from being tilted up. Put the clamp for the screw between the 1:00-2:00 position. I have found that the OEM bellows last at least 10 years if stored down.

tip: always do a radio check while out on the water, my Standard Horizon would receive but not transmit, so I replaced it 2 years ago. If I didn't do a radio check I would have not known that.

    Exhaust Bellows 3.0 cobra

Yes you have to pull the drive the tail end of it is held in the pivot housing with a snap ring you can only access with the drive off. For that reason they never pop off like Mercruisers though.

    Mercruiser 4.3 oil gauge mystery

I would try pulling out the op gauge and put a voltmeter on the + & - terminals & see what it is getting, both with the ignition on & engine running. Also I’d pull apart that big cannon plug & make sure all the terminals are clean & free of corrosion. Do you have a dashboard wiring diagram for...

    Mercruiser 4.3 oil gauge mystery

That split journal crank is the big difference between the V6 & V8 which are otherwise quite similar. It is possible that later units with the balance shaft are better in this respect. Back to the oil pressure issue do you have any other issues with the other gauges? All the gauges get 12v power...
