"Think we're gonna need a bigger boat"

this thread is from a guy who bought a 1998 Sea Ray 270 and had to repair rot in the back end. Pretty much wood and not much coring (if any) https://forums.iboats.com/threads/bought-a-1998-sea-ray-sundancer-270-wide-beam-with-rot.685998/ The boat you are considering is about 12 years older...

Newer Mercruiser Cooling System Questions . . .

Here is the 'crossover assembly' on the engine. Looks like it serves the purpose of collecting the coolant from each side of the engine and sending it to/from the recirc. pump & heat exchanger. Correct? . In the old school GM blocks this was done at/by the front of the intake manifold. So...

Newer Mercruiser Cooling System Questions . . .

I’ll certainly double check and take a look at the engines- I got the cross over parts list from the Mercury website based on the engine serial number. There seemed to be 2 parts lists - one for raw water cooled and another for closed cooling.

"Think we're gonna need a bigger boat"

Which boat are we talking about ? My 1991 and 1996 Formula boats both needed some fiberglass work. They were 13 and 16 years old when I bought them. My current (newer) boat does not need any glassing work (thankfully) 😀

    Rec gas prices???

Nevermind gasoline prices . . . My favorite donut shop (in Boston) is now $4.50 per donut o_O 🤪

New member - deck install panga

I would test the span with a piece of 1/2 plywood supported at the width as it will be in the boat to get a sense of the stiffness. The glassing top/bottom of the plywood will add some stiffness, but it is hard to say how much.

    Are we in trouble?

If you read though to the latest posts, they cancelled the sale and are onto the next opportunity.

New member - deck install panga

Think about water drainage at the bulkheads, if you are laying a deck over them moisture will accumulate in any space, so it needs a way to get out. Also think about the stiffness of the deck vs. the span of the bulkheads. Will it feel more like a trampoline? You may want stiffeners under the...

Starboard exhaust manifold warmer and inspecting

The only thing I'd add to the discussion is to check the thermostat housing for blockage and the hose leading to the hotter exhaust manifold. Any restriction there would cause an imbalance of flow, similar to a restriction in the manifold/elbow itself. Maybe get an IR heat gun to check the...

Hi all, newbie here sharing my fresh project

You mean that your boat was re-done (on this forum) 10 years ago, and now is rotten? I noticed the person doing the rebuild at the time did not finish the thread, having run into a fuel tank 'fit' issue. BTW - the glassing on the transom (back in 2012) did not look good . . . dry...

Thank you (y) Here is the illustration . . . . . Merc P/N = 8M0107035 I think it is on the front of the engine under the Heat Exchanger (somewhere)

Newer Mercruiser Cooling System Questions . . .

@Scott Danforth Any help on my crossover question. What does it do? Sort of looks like a junction box for cooling  I assume that this is a new(er) thing for I/O engines ?

Where to find parts lists, diagrams, etc for Newer Mercruisers

Yes, but if I ever get into that situation, maybe it is worth a conversion to outboards :ROFLMAO:

    Next project. Free boat.

Run your stringers to the transom and provide a hole/cut-out next to the hull so they drain. Your current approach will make the structure weaker than it should be.

Where to find parts lists, diagrams, etc for Newer Mercruisers

Yes, it crosses to a NAPA 7099 and a Wix 57099, and a whole bunch of others. Of course I already ordered the pricey high efficiency filters, but will see about next year.

Where to find parts lists, diagrams, etc for Newer Mercruisers

Yes, which means I am probably trapped into buying Mercury parts rather than aftermarket for a lot of stuff, but I will see how that goes. Everything is digital on these engines (it seems) and more pricey.

Where to find parts lists, diagrams, etc for Newer Mercruisers

Thank You (y) :D I downloaded a bunch of the parts lists for things I will probably need to service. It is interesting that many of the engine supply retailers have not listed the engine S/N and parts list on their websites (yet) . . . the engines have been in production for about 6 years now.
