Which States/Provinces Enforce Registration Numbers Requirements

Exactly Only seen in 'enforced' once in 40 years. This is on an larger inland lake (NY) with regular waterborne sheriff patrols. Neighbor bought a new to him wake boat out of state and had obviously the wrong numbers on the boat still. Late teens early 20's kids in family take the wake boat...

    4 Blade?

I use 4 blades on my bowrider for better hole shot, stern lift, and lower planning speed. My typical use is loaded down watersports... Generally would drop in pitch assuming current prop is hitting correct WOT rpm, but there are so many variables in terms of blade design and cup that you can't...

    Rochester 2gv

Did u replace the pump cup/ boot. Yes the accelerator pump is the first place i would look if there is a bog when hitting it… you can bend the rod to get more pump stoke and thus bigger shot. you want to make sure the linkage has no slop in it for delayed response. When you look down the carb...

    Transom assembly rebuild

Good friend of mine used the stainless pin from nuwave marine in NJ. Was recommended by his mechanic as he had perfect results with them over the years wether it is the pin or bellows stay away from the cheap stuff out there… are you removing engine or using one of the kits to do from outside...

    Rochester 2gv

The pin that holds in the float and it pivots on can easily drop out when inverting the carb top, and it’s easy to tear the accelerator pump cup when reassembling it. Been there more than once … both parts should be easily available Last time I took my edlebrock apart I lost a rod off the...

alpha one gen 2 interupt switch

check to make sure the engine isn't hydro locking when it shuts off. Never seen one break both bolts off.. may have been over tightened... Wonder if starter was replaced with newer permanent magnet starter which uses slightly shorter bolts ? maybe someone tightened the ell out of them

alpha one gen 2 interupt switch

OK that makes sense. If you can make it interrupt by actuating the switch then that's all you can check on land. You can adjust the switch but I'd leave it alone if it was working before someone buggered the wiring..

alpha one gen 2 interupt switch

Exactly. engagement teeth are back cut so they won't release in the water unless load is removed by momentarily cutting ignition I assume you haven't taken this boat out on water yet? Again you can test it by removing lower shift cable, should move with very little effort- two fingers holding...

    Carburetor Baffle Plate

Would generally assume Merc didn't add unneeded parts.. Looks like the later manifold uses what looks like a 4 bbl to 2 bbl adapter plate... I would only think the baffle hanging down directs the airflow to the closest cylinders as they would have a really short intake runner length? Hard to...

alpha one gen 2 interupt switch

Is this on land or in the water? the switch will not trip on land unless the cable is bad... If you disconnect the lower shift cable from shift plate should move very easily with two fingers...

Inherited a custom made wooden replica 1950's runabout WITHOUT an engine

Old and new - old looking boat with modern powertrain vs vintage engine. Yes I would start at a marine mechanic or marina. But I think you need to find someone who wants to do this kind of work. I would think you would spend $25k plus to have a new engine trans etc installed. Here is an example...

    Starting issue

X3 disconnect linkage and make sure throttle blades are fully closing down onto idle speed screw. If someone had the carb apart possible the carb linkage was put back on wrong or accelerator pump linkage is hung up and will not close..

What to do with my two 470's?

Places like michigan motorz offer remans of your engines. https://www.michiganmotorz.com/3-7l-470-mercruiser-marine-engine-1976-89 IF the space is there you would be money ahead swapping in 4.3's . if they are too close together for V engines then you are stuck rebuilding these or swapping in...

Inherited a custom made wooden replica 1950's runabout WITHOUT an engine

Is it set up for sterndrive or inboard. I assume it is rated for 260-300 hp that a 5.7 would produce?

    Pertronix question.

Next time you have it running , shut it off, leave throttle wide open so you can see down manifold. Watch it after it is shut off and see if gas drips into manifold. Even if the gas in the fuel line drained back the carb would still be full...so would think you'd see it in the manifold if carb...

OK check list time for a parked boat for 7 years.

I would pressure test the lower unit to ensure seals are ok. If it doesnt hold pressure reseal it before putting it in the water. Not sure what boat it is in or if it was stored inside would make sure transom and stringers (if FG not aluminum) are in good shape and not rotted

    1988 Mercruser 4.3 Liter Mercruser Engine S/N B779146 Model GM 262 V-6

Exactly- doing this has served me well for many years. Years ago my grandfather motioned taking a outboard out of his shed in the spring only to have the lower case fall apart. Had water in the lube and it expanded in the winter. No sense saving $15 on lube. If I recall a Gen one only takes a...
