    Old mercury 350

What year motor? Most Mercs from the 70s, 80s and 90s, have cable connections on the port side. The shift cable connects to the shifter slide, and the throttle cable connects to the S shaped throttle arm.

    Blackmax 135 loss of speed

High speed jets in carbs should be fixed. The only carb adjustments are for idle quality. You can examine the spark plugs after a high speed run for color. They should all be the same. if one is real black from fouling or real clean fro water intrusion, that could be the issue. Checking...

    Winterize boat

Make sure the motor is stored gearcase down to allow all water to drain from the powerhead. Trickle charge the battery to keep it charged. Grease the steering and swivel and trim fittings. Before it gets cold, drain and refill the gearcase oil. if it is milky looking, it has water in it and...

    60 DEGREE vapor seperator function?

Those motors also have a vapor pump, and the vapor separator has a sealed cover and an inlet needle, and gravity feeds the OMS pump. I always thought that the vapor pump and the OMS pump team up to pull fuel from the tank. I never got a definitive answer on that though.

    Johnson 115 v4 60 degree

Calibration pockets are not adjustable. They do need to be cleaned though. Reed valves do not usually cause hesitation when accelerating. Check off idle orafices to make sure they are clean. Check gaskets on carb bases for leaks. Make sure you get the right carb kits. Some kits have the...

    Boat carpet question.

Jim, if your boat deck rots after you install a carpet, it is not the carpets fault. The boat deck should be rot proof, that is polyester resin and cloth over any wood. Now if you prefer some other deck covering, that is different.

    Johnson 115 v4 60 degree

2 stroke motor, right? If so, the throttle bodies plus the carb bodies perform all the functions of a traditional carburetor. The carb bodies have the floats and inlet needle, plus the high speed jet. The throttle bodies have the throttle plate, low speed jet and intermediate air orafice...

    Derating a 5 hp ( ca, 1995 model) to 4 hp

A new decal is the cheapest way. Alternatively, if the authorities are stupid, you could cross out the 5HP and write in 4HP with a marker.

Adding dash voltage gauge for trolling motor batteries.

You are trying to measure hundredths of a volt. Make sure to get a real accurate volt gauge. Make sure to use marine quality, dedicated wiring from battery to gauge for both ground and voltage. make sure to solder all connections, and minimize the number of connections. A small amount of...

Trimming with Outdrives and Trim Tabs

I only used the tabs in rough seas. Then it was outdrives down, and tabs down for a smooth ride. Maybe trim the drives for a bit more speed/efficiency. In smooth seas it was tabs up, and trim the drives for top speed/efficiency. Of course, I never had any listing issues.

Adding dash voltage gauge for trolling motor batteries.

You can use a single gauge, plus a double throw, single pole switch to connect the batteries to the gauge, individually. I never thought that voltage was an indicator of battery charge. Batteries tend to show 12V+ right up to the point that they are near discharge.

    Seat. Fixing hardware

That hardware should have been stainless. That is the issue, not the rivets. You can drill them out and replace with stainless bolts and nylon locknuts. That should work for a while longer.

    Fuel Tank Cleaning

There are lots of standard fuel tanks on the web. Measure the size of the cavity in the hull and see if you can find one that is pretty close to the original size. Then look for a sale price on it. If that fails, you can always get a custom one fabricated for lots more $$.

    98 sea ray 185, 4.3 bravo 1 steering problem

Is this while you are driving or in neutral? If while driving only, look at the position of the zinc anode, if you have one. If no anode, look for something that would force the outdrive to turn, when underway, due to water pressure.

    No spark

That is precisely why I recommended he consult a wiring diagram. He should know how the ignition power and killer circuits work.

    No spark

You might check the wiring diagram to see if your motor is supposed to supply +12VDC to the power pack when cranking. I know my '98 60* 150HPV6 does. This gives the motor spark at slow cranking RPM.

    Fuel Tank Cleaning

As you suspect, aluminum tanks to develop pinhole leaks. You should pressure test it to make sure it doesn't leak, before doing anything with it. Put a couple of PSI into it and spray it with soapy water to check for leaks. I do not know of a way to fix it if it has leaks. I used marine-tex...

    Cooling water output J150EXECD

Water does not exit those vents. The center hole is threaded to accept a garden hose for flushing. It is plugged with a solid plug, with a telltale hole drilled in it, when not flushing the motor. There is also a flush plug that accepts a quick connect garden hose fitting. This flush plug...

I am not intimately familiar with your model, but I think idle timing will control idle speed.
