    Second Happiest Day . . .

Yes, a bit light on the tow rating, but I'm only going 1 mile down the road . . . 30 mph. I decided not to tow the boat the 250 miles from Long Island. Else, I would have gotten an F-250/350 diesel. With any luck, I'll have a trailer on Monday and the captain service will be bringing the boat...

    Second Happiest Day . . .

The bits and pieces are coming together . . . I bought this truck yesterday. I think I should have the trailer soon. . . 2012 F-150 3.5 EcoBoost, Selectable 4WD (2H, 4H, 4Lo). Nice off-road tires that should get up the launch ramp just fine. This truck is quite clean and rust free for a...

Should you buy 20 year old boat to fix up or 10 year old boat?

I bought a 12 year old boat . . . needed to fix it up Then I bought a 16 year old boat . . . needed to fix it up Just bought a 5 year old boat . . . will be fixing it up. What was your question again? :D🤪

    Second Happiest Day . . .

Well . . . Plan A was to have a boat hauler bring the boat to my home and set it on blocks Plan B was to get a trailer and either tow it myself or have a tow-away service The logistics of getting a trailer and truck, along with my upcoming travel plans are making things a bit challenging...

    Second Happiest Day . . .

Lots of good ideas . . . thank you and keep them coming. I could get a beast of a truck for the haul and then trade down to a F-150/1500 for local hauling. Probably the best truck for the tow home would be a 350/3500 Dually. Any thoghts on the 7.3 Powerstroke or the Cummings 5.9 TD HO ? How...

    Second Happiest Day . . .

All those stats makes my head hurt . . . 🤪 o_O I'm not planning on towing Ohio, Rhode Island is closer and does not require as big a tow hitch :ROFLMAO: I think my overall weight is going to be 21,000 lbs w/ an F-350, which is right near the top of their overall spec. My boat...

Here is an example of what I am finding for tow rating . . . conventional towing, not 5th wheel.

    Second Happiest Day . . .

My truck budget is $15K . . . I'd really like to be in the $10-12K range, saving the rest for beer money. I am looking at 2000 - 2007 F-350 or F-250 diesels. My understanding is that the older 7.3 engines (2000-2002) may be a bit more reliable than the 6.0 engines (2003-2007), but if the...

    Second Happiest Day . . .

Guys - the dry weight of the boat is 11,400 lbs and typical weight would be 12,000 ish. I believe the trailer will come in at 2,600 lbs, making my tow weight about 14,600 lbs. I am not seeing where an older Ram 2500/3500 is rated for 17,000 lbs. Maybe the new ones are, but you might be...

    Second Happiest Day . . .

Yes, I wired the $$$ on Friday, so the focus now is to get the boat transported. I have bids of $3K for a complete hauling service and $2K for a tow-away service. This would be about 250 miles for hauling, which seems pricey @ $8-12 per mile. So, I am now hopeful that the trailer arrives soon...

Yes - a manual would be a good thing. The cooling flow on these things is complicated.

    Second Happiest Day . . .

Quick Update . . . The Admiral had an idea . . . sell one of our cars and buy a fairly used truck to haul the boat. :D 🤪 OK . . . I sold our 2009 Toyota in 2 hrs on FB, and am now in search of an F-350 Diesel. So, it looks like I'll be towing the boat myself, if the...

    Another winterization question

No real need to pre-drain the cooling system (via the blue plugs) if you are going to run the engine on the muffs to pre-heat it and open the thermostat. Keep in mind that a fair amount of the AF will go straight out to the exhaust risers and never go through the engine block, so more AF is...

That's right - you hail from around these parts. Appreciated. (y) Stay tuned - not sure what means I will actually use to transport the boat.

    Boat fibreglass

Greetings . . . Welcome to iBoats. :) You should fix that before putting the boat back in the water.

    Second Happiest Day . . .

I'm thinking to have a boat hauler take it to deal with the driving logistics. It is starting to sound easier to just take the boat via the water up LI Sound into Buzzards Bay. It is about 180 miles . . . probably could do it in 7 hours in decent conditions.

    Second Happiest Day . . .

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The Trailer on OSO is a monster ( for a 40 footer) not anything I can consider. I'm planning on an F250 or F-350 truck to pull the boat/trailer. I put it on uShip to see what I get for bites. Getting off LI it looks like I-495 and then to one of the bridges...

    Winterizing Question

That is not how the cooling system works . . . it needs a constant flow of liquid to the impeller in order for it to move liquid through the cooling system. As mentioned, with the absence of liquid (water or antifreeze) the impeller (pump) will have nothing to circulate and will quickly...

    exhaust bellows from a 7.4l gen V to a Bravo 3

I would check for a leak somewhere along the path for the exhaust, because it all should be making it outside of the boat. At idle speeds it will exit the side ports. Bravo outdrives are best fitted with the exhaust 'tube' rather than the bellows. The tube does not create a sealed path, but...

    Air Don't Freeze Winterization

^^^ This ^^^ I added full closed cooling to my Formula and it was great. I'd check the coolant strength every couple of years and for winterization just run some AF in through the earmuffs and drain the H.E. - Done. My (soon to be) Cruisers 338 has full closed cooling as well. The only...
