    If that water tube seal is split you wer likely leaking water on discharge side of impeller pump, only would contribute to overheating by dumping cooling water into the exhaust stream and overboard instead of to engine

    Just make sure it is the same thickness as original gasket material or close to it. you have to remove the distributor to install the gasket so you it will affect the timing. Plan on retiming it .

    Check for spark. If you put starting fluid in it and it didn’t cough suspect u have no spark. also if you had a head gasket done was it running afterwards? might be the valves arent adjusted right and there is no compression. What cuased head gasket failure

    What was it doing that caused you to rebuild it. normally the biggest issue is getting all the passages clean heres a couple of screen shits of manual pages showing setup for mercarb would assume sierra uses the same carb set ups. Check float isnt water logged

    intake is fine if it is dual plane, which it looked like in photo in post #7 you can see the runners are on two different planes, so it is actually an upgrade as long as you are in fresh water. Salt or brackish will rot a non marine aluminum intake. just get a marine carb and you are good to go...
