    Leave outside with drive off?

    Leaving the outdrive off is done all the time for winter storage, or repairs. The only concern is plugging up the hole (with a rag or something) so the critters don't make a home in your boat.

    Primary and Secondary Imbalance - Alfadan Outboard Motor ?

    I also wonder if having opposing cylinders on the same crankshaft/bearing point (aka 'flat' twins/quads) would address the imbalance ? Not as compact a design though . . .

    Primary and Secondary Imbalance - Alfadan Outboard Motor ?

    Interesting stuff . . . I am just wondering what they (Alfadan) has figured out about the imbalance, where others have not :unsure:. I assume that is what allows them to go up in cylinder size. As far as engine performance, I often like to look at HP/Litre as a guide. The traditional style...

    7.4L Impeller replacement attempt

    The impeller will not turn if the vanes are facing the wrong way . . . BTDT. So, probably not the cause. Look elsewhere for coolant flow issues.

    Gas Appearing in bilge

    How does the song go ??? . . . there's a hole, there's a hole, there's a hole in the bottom of the tank. :oops:

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

    I went to look at the Cruisers 328 today. It has the 350 HP engines, not the 380’s. lots of rust in the serpentine belt pulleys - so probably has not been run in a while.

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

    The Cruisers 328 has the V-P 380 HP engines, which are based on the new generation GM 6.0L blocks with variable valve timing. So, yes the HP would be about 100 more than the Formula.

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

    Yes, I guess the BMW wouldn't be able to pull that sort of thing 😆 I got an offer on the boat today, so things are moving forward, pending a survey. Also have a couple of folks interested in seeing the boat, in case the offer falls through. In other news . . . probably going to take a look...

    I am thinking about a trailer for the next boat . . . :unsure::D

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

    Thanks for the comments guys. Yes, if I hit the lottery (tomorrow) it will definitely be a brand spanking new outboard powered boat. Plan 'B' would be a boat that is of the size, people capacity and features that we want, as well as fitting into a modest 6-figure budget. So, that keeps the...

    Primary and Secondary Imbalance - Alfadan Outboard Motor ?

    It seems like they have (somehow) addressed the secondary imbalance issue and can then go with larger cylinders. It seems to imply that there is a practical limit to cylinder & piston size (i.e. weight) . . . so more power tends to require more cylinders in conventional designs. I know that...

    Primary and Secondary Imbalance - Alfadan Outboard Motor ?

    Oopps, my bad . . . Here is a better link . . . https://www.alfadan.com/

    Primary and Secondary Imbalance - Alfadan Outboard Motor ?

    @Scott Danforth . . . & others www.startengine.com I just came across this conceptual engine that supposedly addresses the issue of primary and secondary imbalance of internal combustion engines, which limits the size of the cylinders. I am wonder if anyone has come across this and what...

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

    My lottery win has not come through, so I'll be getting a used one . . . 2015 ish. There is a 2015 Cruiser 328 CX a few miles from me, but it looks a little neglected. I have not seen it up close yet. I did look at the Aviara boats a few years ago at the Palm Beach Boat Show. Interesting...

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

    Looks like we'd be getting the Cruisers 328 w/ sterndrive (I/O) :unsure::oops:🤪

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

    Thanks Guys . . . I think it will come down to what the Admiral wants vs. what the Captain wants. Perhaps we should plan some boat shopping tours over the next couple of months.

    Time for a ‘new’ boat?

    With 1 wedding down and 1 more to go (in October) . . . the Admiral informs me that after the weddings, we will still have a sufficient amount of cash to buy the 'next boat' . . . just might not be able to go to an extreme. 🤪 I'm still up in the air as to getting a 38 (+/-) foot boat with...

    Loaded pontoon cavitation

    If you have got the prop all the way down and not experiencing any wave action, then it may be cavitation, which is the water turning to a gas/vapor on the back of the blades. Do check the engine height to make sure it is correct. But if all is right, then I would suggest going down a notch in...

    Mercury 7.5 water pump melt-down . . .

    New parts are on order . . . Note to self . . . turn off the motor if going to the bow of the dinghy :rolleyes:

    Mercury 7.5 water pump melt-down . . .

    OOOPPPS . . . I did it again. Melted the impeller/pump. . . again. As i was untying the line for the dinghy at the bow, the prop/LU of the Merc came out of the water for a few seconds . . . that was enough to kill the impeller and then the water pump did another melt down. It seems that the...
