Buy a boat with a bad starter?

As stated, usually hydro-locks cause damage to the rotating assembly - connecting rods, crankshaft, etc. so, if someone selling a boat said "it just needs a new starter" . . . it could mean that the engine no longer turns over due to a bent connecting rod.

Buy a boat with a bad starter?

    Often a hydro-lock is mis-diagnosed as a bad starter.

    Thoughts on a 2003 Crownline 212 DB?

Welcome to iBoats . . . The price does seem crazy. Crownline is a decent mid-tier boat, as are many other brands. Keep in mind that the boat is 18 years old, so the actual condition of the boat is most relevant. Maybe look around and see what else you can find.

    Ablative paint hull prep

Pressure washer should take the dusty stuff off of the hull surface. You do want clean and dry . . . not dusty. Also, you really should do a barrier coat before you do the anti-fouling paint. Interlux Interprotect E2000 is often used as a barrier coat.

    Fluid in the bilge

PS fluid does have a red-ish tint to it, but you will probably have to verify by checking the fluid levels. What does the fluid taste like? :D:eek:

Is this gel coat or top side paint?

Greetings @Scott Danforth , Formula Boats uses DuPont Imron paint for their graphic designs - so It is possible that Chaparral does the same? Sure looks like paint.

    Engine alignment

Too many variables to consider in checking alignment to strive for perfection on the grease marks. If the tool goes in/out easily and the markings are present all-around, and a 90˚ rotation holds true, call it good. Those engine mounts have seen better days. Put them on your fix-it list.

    scan tools...which one?

I have the Rinda Diacom . . . I am not sure how well-supported the MEFIBurn stuff is. Definitely get something that gives you all of the data and not just fault codes. It will pay for itself the first time you use it, because you won't go out and buy a bunch of unnecessary parts...

Thoughts on a 2005 Doral Thundercraft 240 Magnum?

Welcome to iBoats. . . Doral went out of business a while back . . . never really emerged from the economic recession in 2009. Boats are not all that 'reliable', so no real comment there. Most of the component parts on a boat are sourced from other manufacturers, so as things break, you can...

    8 hp Mercury outboard

2-cycle engine? Yes, that's where the discharge oil ends up . . . in the water.

    riser and manifold replacement

What @Bondo said. The key factors are water passage and mating surface condition. Clean 'em up so we can see better.

    Docking question

25 knot wind ? All bets are off . . . it would be hard to bring the bow around and maintain within the 50 foot space. If I were me docking in that situation, I'd probably try to do a 3-point turn in the channel ahead of getting to the slip, knowing the wind will take you back several slips...

5.7 GXi-E High Idle Issue - All of a Sudden

TPS (throttle position sensor) might be something to check. Also see if you can get the GM equivalent parts to save yourself some $$$ vs. the V-P branded stuff.

    Help with water in oil

Seems like the the OP's thread has been Hijacked  Anyway the Mods may be along to clean things up. @h22221 to your question about #6 being able to put water in 2 & #4 . . . Yes, it can/will do that at idle speeds as there will be a slight amount of exhaust reversion. #6 will put...

    Bravo 3 delay into forward?

Change the gear lube, Pump a whole lot of grease into the shift linkage duct, Do a lower cable adjustment (using the Merc. adjusting tool) Then see if it shifts better. Your signature says Bravo 1 and the thread title says Bravo 3 . . .

    Replacing rotten deck

Hull (not haul) . . . If you have not found a diagram of the hull so far, then you probably won't I would go ahead and cut both stringers and associated cross members out, since all will be suspect and it won't save you much time or money vs. doing the whole thing. Once you have the deck off...

Where to start? Mercruiser Overheat / Thanks

I'm thinking a restriction in the cooling system and the increased RPM is enough to overcome it. Your mission (impossible) will be to determine where the restriction is and remedy the situation. Is this 'open' cooling or 'closed' cooling (ie Heat Exchanger)? Places to look/check - Water...

7.4gi/sx Running on plane then high rev, no shift to forward or reverse

    Engine alignment

Actually the opposite . . . This diagram may help understand. So, the engine mounts need to move in the opposite direction of where you see the marks. Sorry @achris - Looks like we were both replying with the same sort of thing
