    at idle you are at displacement speed. burning very little fuel on plane you are at planing speed. burning very little fuel trying to climb the hole, you are burning lots of fuel. save fuel, get out of the hole quickly

    your key switch on an outboard is for magneto ignition. it also controls the choke. the panel you have is for powered ignition. with lots of know-how, you could get it wired. however the switches will fail. a cover isnt going to help.

    Take the factory manual with the factory wiring diagram for the motor and controls, use a digital volt meter and find where the issue is

    welcome aboard. will depend on the boat construction that you can see and we cant. if you can get to the whole floor, all the stringers, all the bulkheads and the transom without pulling the cap, then do so. however I find it much easier on most boats to just make a cradle and pull the cap.
