    exactly what it states and what AD re-iterates because you have a dog clutch and not a cone clutch, without the shift interrupt you can not get the engine into neutral unless you key off and shift, then key back on to catch the motor. it not that its hard to shift, it is that it wont shift...

    start by removing the stuff in the bilge that is in your way. basically anything to port or starboard of the engine that is removable. put a pillow or blanket in there, may have to lay across the engine and work upside down then if you need to remove engine bits to get to the spark plugs...

    coincidence only. unless you bought a really really cheap starter you most likely have a bad connection. every battery cable connection should be clean and shiny enough your mother-in-law would eat off them.
