1986 Ski Nautique 2001 resto project

Saturday I Finally got one of the side bolsters sewn up. I had no idea it would be so difficult. Many pieces and a complex shape at the front. What makes it tough is the welting that has to be sewn along the top and side edges. Just painted the original foam covered plywood with mold killing...

1986 Ski Nautique 2001 resto project

Hard to explain without showing in person but certain pieces need to be sewn/joined in the proper order/sequence once all the old pieces have been cut apart, it can become very confusing which ones need to go backl together first. My initial system has me starting with A then B then C etc. For...

I put the tick marks on the old pieces before cutting then transfer them to my newly cut traced pieces that I cut with a 1/2" extra border for seam allowance. I then transfer all marks to the new piece to make sure when I am sewing the new pieces together that they are still in proper...

I see why upholstery shops charge so much.... Takes a ton of time to do this work. I am getting a little quicker as I am wasting less time figuring out how to proceed with each piece but this is definitely time consuming work. Hardest part is marking the old seat then cutting it apart and then...

1986 Ski Nautique 2001 resto project

Success! Finally completed my first cushion. I spent an entire day completing the first one. It is not rocket science but it required some thought, patience and coordination. Had to figure out how to mark the old cover, then cut it, then trace them onto new vinyl with 1/2" seam allowance...

Finally got my sewing machine working properly and decided to try my first piece.... the starboard aft seat bottom. The wood basically fell apart after removing the cover. Going to make a new base from 1/2" plywood and seal it with epoxy. Hopefully my 1/4" sew foam arrives on the UPS truck and...

Repainted and repaired the Consew 206 RB1 sewing machine this weekend. Also fabricated a gear reduction pulley system (7.8 : 1 speed reduction) and an extended motor mount. Picking up the new belts after work today. Leaving for a trip midweek so I won't get to start on the upholstery practice...

Thanks... Been looking at doing a gear reduction at the least and if that is not sufficient then I might buy a servo motor also. I got the machine home and have been looking it over for issues. Thus far I have ordered a new tensioner assembly as mine has a broken spring/hoop. Also found I...

I have had the boat out a couple times after I gave it a quick cleaning and buff job. I straightened a few dings in the prop, got the tach working, got my registration numbers on, got a new hour meter, refinished the swim platform, repaired a cracked blower plenum and basically am now confident...

Got my new transmission parts at a local shop that was right near an airport in Port Clinton, Ohio. It was only a 25 minute plane ride over there. Fixed the transmission yesterday afternoon and took it for a quick trial this afternoon on the Maumee river. Works great! Now to decide how much...

Yanked transmission out last night... Split case and found the two reverse clutch plates were broke and the 12 return springs were mangled. $100 in parts and this boat will be working again! Can't wait to put it in the river and give it a test run.

I did a pressure check on the reverse test port and it makes pressure in reverse so the likely problem is simply broken reverse clutch plates and possibly some mangled springs. When I drained the trans oil last night it looked clean with no metal particles. "Should" be an easy fix.

I haven't posted here for a long time since I finished my Larson restoration some years ago. We have been enjoying it a lot. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/1995-larson-214-lxi-floor-and-stringers.702533/page-14 Last week while staying at an Indiana lake with the kids/grandkids I made the...

1995 Larson 214 LXI... Floor and stringers

Got the boat out for the first time this year last weekend.... Started right up and everything still works perfect. Still not a drop of water ever in my bilge. Can't believe it has been 7 years since I restored this thing. Getting the itch again and may go look at a '76 Ski Nautique that is...
