I haven't posted here for a long time since I finished my Larson restoration some years ago. We have been enjoying it a lot. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/1995-larson-214-lxi-floor-and-stringers.702533/page-14
Last week while staying at an Indiana lake with the kids/grandkids I made the mistake of driving past an old 1986 Ski Nautique 2001. When I was younger I always lusted after them.

Well I told my wife about it and she didn't protest... much. Next thing I knew we were driving back home to get cash and bring a second tow vehicle back to the lake. Next day the boat was mine. Two days later at end of of lake vacation, I towed the Larson home and my wife was given the task of pulling the Ski Nautique home with our SUV (first time she ever pulled a boat... she did great).

Boat was cheap as 80 yr old original owner said transmission needs replaced as it won't go into reverse. After getting it home and backing it into my pond I confirmed that reverse does not work. Boat has recent new carb, distributor, starter and coil. It starts and runs great. Thus far have just power washed bilge/engine/trans and will start removing transmission this week.
Not sure if I will do floor and stringers yet as I have not inspected them yet very carefully.

Feels great to have a boat project once again!

Got the motor lifted/rotated and transmission ready to remove last night. Hopefully I can get it removed tonight after work.

I did a pressure check on the reverse test port and it makes pressure in reverse so the likely problem is simply broken reverse clutch plates and possibly some mangled springs. When I drained the trans oil last night it looked clean with no metal particles. "Should" be an easy fix.

Yanked transmission out last night... Split case and found the two reverse clutch plates were broke and the 12 return springs were mangled. $100 in parts and this boat will be working again! Can't wait to put it in the river and give it a test run.

Helpful thread and pics, thank you!
That boat looks great, definitely better cosmetically than our 1991 Mastercraft. We're OK mechanically, for now.
