My Admiral tells me that I have to sell my current boat before buying another boat . . . kind of slows things down. :ROFLMAO:

I would not completely dismiss a filthy or 'abused' boat. They can be an opportunity if the price and other factors are favorable. In my search of 4 years ago, the most local boat was filthy and neglected . . . I looked at the boat on 3 occasions . . . each time the boat was a bit cleaner than...

FWIW - I have found as many issues with 'fresh water' boats as 'salt water' boats, just different issues. Mostly hull blisters and galvanic corrosion (due to neglect) with fresh water. Salt water boat issues are more engine related . . . raw water cooling is a definite show stopper (having...

It is all out there on the Internet . . . BoatTrader and Yachtworld for asking prices Youtube for factory tour videos However, with each boat purchase, I learned a bunch about how boats are made, since I had to fix rot in my first 2 powerboats. My current boat is much newer and did not have...

I know the transom is foam core, and it looks like the stringers are as well. I think I'll know more as I cut into things (swim deck bottom, etc.) The bulkheads are plywood.

Here are a few from the Formula 2011 plant tour . . . . . . . I think you will find that in the mid-2000's boat companies changed over to rot resistant plywood (as mentioned), and then in the 2010's started converting to foam/fiberglass stringer grids and other synthetic materials with some...

Here are a few photos from a Sea Ray factory tour of about 7 years ago (2018 ish) . . . Still using wood. Looks like a mid-size Sundancer hull . . . . Stringer & bulkhead grid . Hull layup . . . . I think you will find something similar on the other boats you are considering. So, be sure...

I would check the source of information regarding boat construction. There is lots of mis-interpretation and mis-information about boat construction. Many folks mis-interpret ‘composite’ to mean fiberglass, whereas it actually means a combination of materials.

Also, this is how I typically look at boat markets . . . . . Your time is best spent in the 'green' zone, IMO.

Here is some Formula 34PC data . . . . . Formula prices are 30% higher than SeaRay, and keep in mind the at 20 years old brands may not make much difference. Also, keep in mind that in/about 2004-2005 the boat companies were switching over from regular marine plywood to rot resistant plywood...

The graph tells me that there is a $7-8K increase per year in the average pricing. So, in terms of 'newness' and any desirable features of the newer models, there is your expected price increase per year.

Here is some SeaRay data . . . there is probably more boats out there, but this is a good sample. . . I would think that there is not a huge difference in condition among these boats, and price does not necessarily reflect condition. but it gives you some perspective on where to spend your time.

Pink Super Tech (Walmart) -50 RV and Marine ok for engine?? I always thought NO...??

I used the alcohol-based AF on engines for years . . . No issues. Of course these were older engines. Newer engines tend to have plastic parts, which would tend to dry/crack from alcohol exposure (I believe). On newer engines, I have used the PG type, which is the kind for engines. I hate...

FWIW - I purchased a boat in 2021 for 10% under asking price, a boat in 2012 for 5% under asking price, and a boat in 2004 for asking price. However . . . most of these asking prices were on the lower end of the range of asking prices for same/similar boats.

There is nothing hard & fast about boat pricing. Yes, everybody thinks their boat is worth more money than the next person's. The truth of it all is that boats sell from the bottom of the asking price range. Here is a graph that I frequently do on various boat's asking prices. The line is...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The 2 tables (5&6) list under water properties. Keep in mind that the bolts do not (should not) get wet, other than some periodic dampness.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

One thing about working with SS bolts is 'galling' , which can ruin your day. I had the issue with my extended swim platform build, so I'll have to be extra careful about the extension pod, considering the number of bolts.

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

According to AI . . . "Coarse thread is more subject to loosening under vibration, while fine thread is less likely to loosen. This is because fine threads have a smaller helix angle, which makes them more resistant to self-loosening from vibration compared to the steeper angle of coarse threads."
