Ok, question for all you Merc Mechanics.
Are there any problems or concerns that I should know about, on a 2001 Merc 50 hp?
Recently acquired this motor and the only maintenance it has received is annual gear lube changes, and maybe fogging.
I will be performing the usual maintenance, but was...
There are search engines everywhere.
From iboats, to Sears, to Google, etc.
Trying to develop a list of tips for using them.
I know all tips will not work with all engines, but would like as many as possible.
Example: When searching on ebay, you can type in the word you are looking for, then...

I don't know who you are or where you came from, but welcome aboard.

It is much appreciated, and I look...

Will be picking up a 50hp Merc this weekend.
Too large/heavy and awkward to put in the Blazer.
Will put it on a flatbed trailer with a plywood deck.
Now, how do I secure it to the trailer?
Don't want it sliding or bouncing or getting scratched up.
So, who's got ideas on how I can secure it...
Hey guys and gals, how are you all doing?

Sold the old boat, and bought an older and smaller boat a few weeks ago.
Its a 1977 Alumacraft Lunker 16' with console and a 35 Evinrude.

Anyone have any experience with the Panther Integral Tilt and Trim unit. for use on the Evinrude / Johnson motors under 35 hp?
Considering getting one.
It costs more than a CMC unit, but is made for the motor.
It also won't work with other motors, which makes the CMC unit more versatile, but...
I just boat another boat, vintage 1977.
It has a 1977 Evinrude, with the Evinrude Simplex controls.
They seem to be in good working order, as are the cables.
They may need a bit of adjustment.
And the throttle friction knob doesn't provide much friction.
Are these controls still reliable, or...
Well, I'll still have an old one, but I'm selling 2 of them.
Need some room, need some cash.
Stripped em down, cleaned em up, put them out yesterday.
Will through them on ebay in a couple days.
Gonna really miss the newer one.
When you type "LOL" in an email or web post, do you feel the need to let out an audible chuckle? So that you are actually laughing out loud.
I find myself doing it, guess I must be too honest. LOL.
There, did it again.
The Ryan Newman Foundation, yes, the NASCAR driver, has a charitable foundation that benefits animal welfare and wildlife conservation.
Again this year, they are raffling off a bass boat and VIP race package.
Its a pretty sweet deal and a great cause to support.
Good reading about the foundation...

A GOOD used lower unit will run $350-$600.
New one is $3300 !
Does that make you a little more patient to wait for one on ebay?
Good luck in your search.
Easy enough to buy the 25" lower unit that is on ebay, and replace the driveshaft with yours, assuming yours is usable.
Looks like the...
compression a little low, but not bad yet.
The water pump pumps less water at wot as the impeller wears out.
Replace it before it fails completely and you ruin the engine.
