    I have a 1991 Evinrude 8 HP that I bought brand new and that broke twenty years ago. I like it because lots of times I back off beaches in windy weather and I can start it in reverse.

    Just sold this for $1500 after going through it. I bought two and they were a matched set that came off a whaler. 1986 and the vro's are going strong. Paid $1000 for the set I did replace the pulse limiter with the blue one.

    My vote would be to keep the very reliable vro and quit worrying. Pull the vro apart, inspect it and replace what's bad. Typically the fuel side diaphragm fails flooding your engine with oil.     I hate to disagree with race but finding a good used new to you outboard is a better financial decision. I live in Seattle and we don't have a marine machine shop anymore.
