    LOWER END OIL CHANGE

It is a hand impact driver. You hit it with a hammer to tighten or loosen screws. Don't hit it too hard, for low tightening, harder for more tightening. The plugs will stop getting tighter on their own.

    LOWER END OIL CHANGE

You will want to install new fiber washers on the two plugs. Make 'em tightest as possible with a screwdriver. A couple of taps with a hand impact driver to tighten them, is a good idea as well.

    1995 2 stroke, 0G310728 Spark plug wire

The ign wire should be stranded stainless steel. The plug boots usually have the spring connector with the sharpened end that pierces the insulation. This can be replaced for pennies. The other end is usually crimped on. I am not sure if you can get the connector or crimp it yourself. Those...

Try the MerCruiser accessories area of crowleymarine. It should give a part number.

are there boat "salvage yards" anywhere in the U.S.?

Gee, there used to be a list of salvage yards on this forum. Likely in a sticky.

    Advice please - 1995 Merc 60 hp / Tilt-trim issues

It sounds like the PTT motor may be bad. Test it as follows. If the PTT motor has two leads. Connect them directly to the battery and see if the PTT motor turns. If the PTT motor has three leads, make sure the black wire is well grounded. Now connect one of the other leads (blue, green) to...

Can you convert a 20HP Johnny to 35HP with a carb and intake manifold?

The Utube guy says the 20HP motor is about a 1988 model. I just thought the displacement of the 20HP engine was too little for the HP to be raised that much.

1978 mercury 70hp water leaking from spark plugs?

Or dry out the area and put some silicone over the leak. Those mangy 1/4-20 water jacket screws tend to break when you try to remove them.

Can you convert a 20HP Johnny to 35HP with a carb and intake manifold?

There was a Utube video where the author claimed he could do the subject. the motor looked to be mid 70's, 2 cylinder. The intake hole in the intake manifold for the 20HP engine was quite small compared to the intake hole in the 35HP manifold. Is that even possible...

Drilling vent holes in a prop

Airshot, I am not sure I ever saw a true hull get adverse performance from prop thrust that is parallel to the hull. It begs some questions about your boat/motor. Some motors have a negative angle tilt stop, which tucks the gearcase under the hull a bit. This will lift the stern and could...

Evinrude 25 hp lower unit front stud

Put a pipe wrench on it and turn it out. In 2008 I removed a stud from my '73 Merc midsection, as I needed it on my '93 Merc midsection. I didn't even need any heat.

    Oil Pressure Sender failure modes?

Gee, oil pressure sensors on MerCruisers often fail. The one on my '88 was a can-type. it looked the same as the automotive one on autos of that time. Ohm out the wiring, clean the connectors and if that doesn't get it, replace it.

Drilling vent holes in a prop

Gee, the best angle for all "take-offs" is motor full down. If you have trim tabs, the heavier the boat's butt (people included), the more down tabs necessary. i.e. on my 18 foot SeaRay bowrider, with a 205HPV6 sterndrive, 6 people and a skier, it was tabs full down, spread the people out, hit...

    connecting tach/ determining RPM

The tach likely runs off stator pulses. They do this because every HP motor has the same number of stator pulses at a given RPM, so a universal outboard tach may be used. I would have thought the timing light tach would have worked. The automotive tach's are probably hit and miss. That is...

Drilling vent holes in a prop

There was a template that showed exactly where to drill the holes. I would think that a drill press and a jig to hold the prop in the right position would work fine. However, the holes are to let the exhaust ventilate a bit and help the prop slip more when first accelerating. This helps the...

Found some rocks with my prop...

Gee, I have found that TP Hustler props in aluminum have real good performance. Aluminum props usually destruct when you hit something, saving the propshaft. That can be a good idea, depending on the conditions. For example, I had a 18foot sterndrive that I often ran in a shallow creek...

    Portable Gas Tank Location

Gee, batteries, outboards and portable fuel tanks have been side by side for decades. Open boats with outboards do not have an issue there. Obviously, inboard and sterndrive boats need a blower for the fuel tanks, but not the batteries.

    Sticking weather seals

I put a thin line of caulk to glue the seals to the cover. It is not perfect, but pretty good. Clean the mating surfaces with a solvent, before adding caulk.

So you are blaming wakeboard boats for washing the soil out of the rocks, but not waves, wind, rain and snow, ice etc? No sure I agree.

Mercury Throttle and Shift - Neutral Safety switch problems?

saaf, you should start your own thread in the Mercruiser forum. You should also describe your controls, as a lot of them have the keyswitch on the dashboard, and that makes the neutral interlock switch very easy to test.
