    12 volts or so..... understand a fully charged batt is 12.7, a dead batt is 12v..the or so makes a big difference.

    IMHO cutting just the cap of a stringer and digging it out then fitting a new one in would be tedious and time consuming, not to mention the bond may be questionable. I would consider taking all but an inch out so you have a bit of a guide.

    To get a back to the op, if you're boat is rated for the upgrade the swap is doable. If not, then you could have some liability in an accident.
