    Grease Seal to Spindle Fit

I ruined an axle about 9 months after buying a boat trailer. Whoever assembled the axle at the factory didn’t pack the bearings. They just smeared a little grease on the rollers and dropped them in. When the replacement arrived (warrantied) I pulled the hub before I took it down the road the...

Disguising a Suzuki as a Mercury

I think it would be better to make a mold and create your own cowl but I expect an existing one could be modified to look how you want. I think modified would be quite a bit heavier.

    Intermittent "surging" issue

I just take some fuel hose and tee into the output side of the low pressure pump. I think most fuel injection systems have a port to connect a gauge to somewhere on the high pressure side. It reminds me of a valve stem on a tire. Schrader valve is a better term. Fuel can squirt out of it when...

    Intermittent "surging" issue

Not holding pressure in the fuel rail after shutdown kinda indicates the high pressure pump to me. It should pump right back up when the key is turned on so it really shouldn’t affect starting unless the pump isn’t performing. What pressure are you seeing or how are you checking pressure?

What’s the Best Way to Transport a Boat Safely?

Do you mean not full of the errors most of us make?

What’s the Best Way to Transport a Boat Safely?

Yep, the variables need to be narrowed down a bit. I own a 17.5 foot aluminum fishing boat that I don’t hesitate to drag across the country with my F150. I have towed 21 foot ski boats and 27 foot tri-toons with the same truck but would not want to go very far that way with the surge brakes...

Is there a complete service guide?

I use solvent in a coffee can to clean parts. I also dry with forced air. Do not allow the bearing to spin when blow drying with compressed air. On the mess avoidance side, you may want a bearing packer like the one linked below (they are quite a bit cheaper everywhere else). It doesn’t...

A tale of woe and poor anchor management.

A few years ago I had to go out to an I/O powered ski boat to untangle a ski rope. It wouldn’t just unwrap and had to be cut several times to free the prop. Of course, this had to be done underwater while holding my breath in near zero visibility water. The prop shaft was bent and there was some...

A tale of woe and poor anchor management.

It looks to me like the anchor rope was on the aft cleat.

Is there a complete service guide?

I just pack the bearings with more grease than normal between the seal and the bearing when doing boat trailers to keep the water out. Filling the hub does nothing to keep water out unless you are pushing grease past the seal (the only way to know you got grease where you need it). No matter...

    thermostat

I am far from an expert but I am thinking a thermostat for a 351 Windsor (Ford) would fit.

Best diet to lose 20 lbs?

It’s hard to trust a water supply that smells like lake one day and chemicals the next. Not to mention the letter that comes with the bill 2-3 times a years stating they exceeded the “safe” levels of one thing or the other but there is no need to be concerned or take special action.

    Boating GPS

I feel pretty good about the maps I have in the Hummingbird. The local lake is large (600 miles of shoreline at normal pool) and there are wooded areas submerged. The map shows me the creek bed route so I can stay over deeper water and off the trees. I still don’t run full power through those...

    Boating GPS

I use a Hummingbird 598 with a card for navigation. It fits my console better than the 899 I have for the 360 or the Garmin I bought for LiveScope. Rivers and lakes. Neither my phone or tablet can be seen in the sun.

Best diet to lose 20 lbs?

Serving sizes are an issue too. It seems as if nearly everyone eats 2-3 times what they need. Wife made pizza last night. Big, thick slice of cheese and meat. None of it good for dieting and I really didn’t need to eat 2 slices. Half of one would have been a truer “serving”. I need to lose...

    Nobody fishing?

I think I was climbing trees with a chainsaw when I was younger than that. We used wood heat and dad would pay us $20 a pickup load. Sometimes the best firewood was in a live tree especially when the stuff on the ground was frozen to the ground. I think he had us using a Poulan with a 12” bar...

    Draw on battery 1

From google: The Mercathode is an electronic corrosion control system for boats, manufactured by Mercury Marine, that actively prevents galvanic corrosion on underwater metal components. It works by using impressed current cathodic protection, which introduces a reverse electrical current to...

    Cigarettes, shocked!

Oklahoma just passed an open container law for pot. If anyone lights up in a car the driver gets a ticket. Seems like common sense to me since the driver cannot stay out of the smoke. Open container laws for alcohol in cars don’t make sense to me since the driver has the option to take a drink...

    Cigarettes, shocked!

I live in the Indian Nations. The 24/7 factory is just up the road. Most expensive place to buy them is locally. The Indian smoke shop at the casino is cheapest. Gas station is $2 more for a carton. It is a lot cheaper when we travel out of state. At least smokes aren’t costing us $5300 a year...
