Am I hurting things by not running WOT?

You want to prop your boat so it will run at max recommended RPM at WOT. That gives keeps you in the motors powerband properly. Lugging the motor is bad on several levels. Once you have that, pick a speed that you like and run it. As for best economy, solidly on plane and trimmed near max...

    Livewell design

Why do you have the drain connected to the fill hose? All it will do is clog it with fish guts. You could connect the drain to the overflow hose, low down in the hull. That makes sense.

Is a 4.3 Mercrusier Waterpump the same as a 4.3 Chevy waterpump ?

The timing cover on my '88 4.3LX looked to be automotive grade, as was the oil pan. I say was, because it rusted thru.

Carolina Skiff 198 DLV loose steering at steering wheel

Look under the dashboard. Rack and Pinon steering will have a long bar-shaped mechanism. Rotary steering will have a round steering mechanism.

Carolina Skiff 198 DLV loose steering at steering wheel

Gee, if that happened to me it would be the loose nut on the steering cable and behind the steering wheel. But that is just me!

Losing power on 2000 2 stroke Johnson 70hp

Pump primer bulb at high speed and see if she will keep running. If so, it is likely a fuel pump or fuel line issue. My SeaRay I/O did that and it turned out to be a partially clogged filter on the fuel pickup.

Mecury BlackMax 175Hp, Constant Beep and Overheating

Those motors are not made to run without thermostats. Is the poppit valve working properly? It should open at about 2000RPM and allow a whole lot more cooling water thru the block. Put a torque wrench on the head bolts and check 'em for tightness. Sometimes they can get loose and allow...

1989 Johnson 50hp fuel pump fittings

You should be able to blow thru the fuel ports in one direction only due to the check valves. The port that allows air in obviously means fuel in as well. The pulse port will be sealed.

    Jet Drive Outboard Motor Debris

Jet drives (no matter what kind) are lower in efficiency than prop drive motors. i.e. a 105 Jet Power OB will have the block from a 150HP Prop drive. You might take that into account when choosing the power of the motor.

Winterizing a Merc A1-G1 Block Question Antifreeze

Lou, You probably know this, but for those lurkers that may not, aftermarket manifolds and risers are fine to use, but make sure the gasket between them is a good one. I had the green paper gasket that came with the Osco-brand products fail one day and the engine hydro locked, luckily with...

Winterizing a Merc A1-G1 Block Question Antifreeze

Lou, 20 years is a long time for risers and exhaust manifolds to last in salt water. You might slide the rubber sleeves off the risers and have a look at the risers. That is where they tend to rust away first.

Winterizing a Merc A1-G1 Block Question Antifreeze

Gee, Lou, In the spring I used to drain the antifreeze back into it's original containers and save if for next season. I saw no reason to dispose of it each year.
