    1970 Evinrude 18hp Trottle issue

"I believe I did run the head over 220 and saw no depressions." This one is hard to believe. They are all out of spec.

    1970 Evinrude 18hp Trottle issue

Just read the thread, I don't see the new compression numbers nor do I see that you sanded the head. Was that done?

Yes all that plastic crap can break....usually breaks when you really need it to work. So don't really use it!

Check your tach otherwise you need a 15 pitch at least. Must be a light boat.

Who's the maker of the service manual and in general I wasn't talking about just the pin. No problem with you working on it or even enjoying posting.... it's just at the end of the day don't expect it to be a real good outboard for you.

Really it's kind of wall art.....if you want to continue to play around with it purchase a factory manual and tear it down and restore it. Newer more modern motors work better for actual use but I have fun cleaning them up. Just remember at the end of the day what you really have.

Guess Who needed a tow home ?

Just look up linc and sync for your motor....typically takes 2 or 3 times before I get it exactly the way I want it. Easy job? Not really, but gets easier every time I do it. I don't use the carb pointer tool that the manufacturer says you need.

Guess Who needed a tow home ?

OMC service bulletin stated that you should be a 1/4 to 1/2 inches forward of the two lines. Mine hesitates if I run it between the two lines when I punch it, but if I run it about 3/8 of an inch ahead of that it's smooth when I push the throttle up. I guess if yours is working fine I'd leave...

Guess Who needed a tow home ?

I know I'm not on the Mercury forum but I'm trying to rebuild this carburetor for my neighbor. She lost her husband and her two outboards sat for 7 years and one of them started running and then didn't. This one particular screw has an opening on the back side which allowed it to get stuck and...

I have it's sister....you have the red headed step sister. Always abused but usually comes through. Mines seen the bottom of the ocean and still runs....minus wiring/starter issues.

Can anyone tell me the name of this part?

Usually unavailable. Test that one or find a used one. Not sure why this problem has been fixed....hoping it has.

Very nice of him. Borrow someone else's tester or buy a new one. Lots of testers seem to be off. Remove the head and inspect like you were told. Post pictures.
