Gee, give it a sniff if you don't believe.

Water test on 115 HO etec

Both motors are the same generation. Not sure about gearcase ratio but would not expect it to change. You might check it out. I would expect the props to swap over with the same performance. Since you went to a 2"pitch less prop, I would expect about a 400RPM increase at WOT. If the old...

    charging help

Set a voltmeter to AC voltage, start the engine on a flusher and see if any AC voltage is getting to the battery. If so, the diodes in at least one of the voltage regulators are bad. Just so you know, neither of the VRs power the ignition. They both serve to charge the battery.

    Trim issue 1995 115 hp

Tape 'em up or get some insulating shrink tube from home despot or a HW store to insulate them. On the other hand, if you don't want to fix the bare wires, you need to replace the PTT motor.

    Trim issue 1995 115 hp

Jumper the PTT motor and see if it is still good. That is, if 2 wire PTT motor ground one PTT motor lead and provide power to the other lead. If you have the three-wire PTT motor, check the ground on the black wire. Now apply power to either the green or blue wire and see if PTT motor turns...

All gauges went out. What to look for?

Still look for a bad ground. The gauges may be grounding thru the nav lights circuit, and when you apply power, the ground is lost.

    charging help

That motor and most others with charging systems are not made to be run with batteries disconnected. Disconnecting the battery will damage the new VRs you installed. I also do not know what effect it has on the EFI system. Why would you intentionally disconnect the batteries?

    ACR with Inverter Question

Gee, I think you are asking a different question now. Running mechanical devices at 100% capacity is likely not good for any of them. i.e. Run your car at 100% of power for an hour and see what happens. Are you really going to use 165Amps of power for an extended time? If so, you might get a...

    Starting problem

Your radio, depth finder and lights may be directly connected to the battery and may work w/o any power to the ign switch.. Your ign key is likely fused at the motor. Check that fuse first. Do your gauges work? They are usually powered by the ign key. If fuse is good and she doesn't crank...

    ACR with Inverter Question

OK, so if your car battery goes dead, and you jump the car to get her started. Would you not expect the alternator to charge at or near max? Now if the alternator is shorted to ground, the diodes in the voltage regulator will likely be damaged, but not the alternator windings.

1978 Lund Deep V Hull, bow raising up dangerously high

Gee, a lot of weight in the stern is a relative term. What is the weight of the boat, say 150# or less? The motor is 60-80#, battery is 40# and fuel is 50#. So gas, fuel and motor likely outweigh the boat, hence the stern being a lot lower in the water, while it is moored. Move fuel and...

    Distributor harness 1976 mercury 115

CDI Electronics has a test on their website that tests everything in the ign system, except the distributor trigger. You might run it so you know your wiring, coil and switchbox are good.

Adding power tilt and trim to manual motor

The PTT unit for that motor had the trim pump in the boat with 4 hydraulic hoses that went to and powered the two trim cylinders that bolt on the outside of the transom bracket. See parts diagrams. https://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury/oem-parts/outboard/1985/-1035625?mdl=SEHBTW I can tell...

    Welding a pivoting Bow Stop?

If the winch line is tight, the bow stop should not move very much. If it does, it is likely the trailer flexing. Is the trailer rated for the boat weight?

1978 Lund Deep V Hull, bow raising up dangerously high

Gee, put the fuel tank in the bow. Consider moving the battery (if you have one) forward as well.

1978 Lund Deep V Hull, bow raising up dangerously high

Trim the motor down as much as you can. That will help it plane faster with less bow rise. Try to determine if the wind affects the lift of the bow. I had a jon that the wind would lift and carry the bow.

    Distributor harness 1976 mercury 115

You do not need to remove the flywheel to get the distributor off. You may need to remove the outer flywheel to get a to the bolts, I cannot quite remember. I think it unbolts from the bottom. On that distributor, the rotor is non-removeable and fragile and $200+ to replace, so easy does it.
