Questions about redoing floor on '76 'Twain 162

I can't imagine being able to do a good job under those sections without taking off the cap.

    Possibly Purchasing??

Have you looked at this buyer’s checklist? https://forums.iboats.com/threads/for-new-members-needing-help-buying-a-boat-a-buyers-checklist.612841/ It’s all about condition, especially the stuff that’s not immediately obvious. Do you know what year the boat was made?

    2000 Larson 186Lxi

No, I don't think so. Best bet is to post your question and some pics on the General forum and I bet you'll get some suggestions.

Need gas cap for 1994 Larson SEI 174

I have a '97 Larson SEI. When I get home I'll look and see if mine has any manufacturer's mark.

    trailer unknow

What paperwork you have (or is needed) will depend on the state... in Illinois, you'd need to have a title and registration (license plate) for that trailer. Both of those would have make/model/year information.

what are these two holes in bilge area?

I agree, the placement of those holes is curious... was maybe someone checking for rot in the structure and didn't bother to fill the holes? In any case, why is the bilge pump not powered to clear out the water? If the float switch is broken, that's easy to replace. I'd be concerned first...

    winterizing merc?

I put my plugs back in, too, after the engine has drained. The last thing I want to do is hang upside down in the engine bay so I can use a thread chaser to clean out rusty threads. If the water has all drained out, there's no harm in reinstalling them. (Plus, that's one less thing for me to...

    Immediate delamination

Glad it worked out for you!

    Immediate delamination

Yeah, I would soak the rag frequently, scrub the surface, then wipe with a clean cloth. Acetone is cheap compared to resin.

    Immediate delamination

The only thing I could really see that might be an issue is the wiping down with acetone. If there is any surface contamination, you really need to wash it down with acetone; wiping it with a cloth mildly dampened with acetone might not be enough. But even so, it's hard to imagine that would...

Which gasket is better for impeller install, metal or fiber?

The Quicksilver kit I use (817275Q05) has the steel plate with the integrated gaskets; it came with a parts list and instructions. I think I bought mine on EvilBay.

    Larson Composite Transom Leaks?

I would agree with previous replies that the knock test is pretty much worthless with a wood transom. Who knows if it's any better with a composite transom? I sure don't.

Which gasket is better for impeller install, metal or fiber?

Although I agree that Rick seems pretty grizzled, I didn't see anything in his message at which to take offense. His advice is really very sound: don't use silicone and DO get a service manual if you plan to do your own maintenance. I do most of my own maintenance and with a few exceptions...

    Larson Composite Transom Leaks?

You had composite transoms that flexed enough to leak while under way? I’m not sure why, but I thought composite transoms were supposed to be pretty bulletproof.

suggestions on removing fuel from tank

I’d leave it, too. Gas will be fine in 8 months, especially with stabilizer.

I bought a set of sealed LEDs from O'Reilly's and swapped out all my trailer lights. Been working great for several years.
