Voids found after new transom install

I'd drill some large holes (and relief holes) and try to inject thickened resin using a turkey baster or something that would allow you to really squirt that stuff in and fill the voids. You maybe could even use PL Premium and a caulk gun to do the same. That sounds a lot easier than cutting the...

Boat winterized and summarized each year but not used in 5 years

Not sure trying to run an engine on 5 year old gas is a good idea. That sounds like a good way to gunk up an engine. Was the engine run when they were winterizing/summerizing?

Fair price for 2010 Regal 2300 from old man?

Unless one is really desperate to go boating, this is just a horrible time to buy a boat. Prices are insane. I bet if you'd wait two years, you could get twice the boat for the same money.

Adding ski pole or tower etc.

I don't think the problem is that the tube attached to the ski pole causes the tube to submarine. The problem is that you have basically created a lever that wants to rack your transom. I'm sure it's possible to mount a ski pole so securely that even a tube burying itself under hundreds of...

What are your opinions on this boat?

With a non-running engine, it's really a crap shoot, isn't it. The problem could be an ignition control module, or there could be much worse problems lurking. Who knows? Assume the worse case scenario: you'd have to replace/rebuild the motor (and hope the outdrive is OK). Would the boat be...

    Towing with/without Overdrive

Most folks with Ecoboosts - especially the 3.5L - love them for towing. What didn't you like?

    Electric Boats

Same as with cars - but more so with boats - it seems that electric is not quite ready for prime time. But prime time is coming, about that I have little doubt.

Where can i find a curved window

A friend of mine had a local glass shop fit a sheet of Lexan on a Rinker that had a broken curved windshield. It doesn't look quite as good as glass, and it won't hold up as well, but he'll be able to replace it about 10 times before he comes close to the cost of a glass replacement.

    Cold air intake

Even my ‘05 F150 had a cold air intake, One engineered by Ford to work with my engine. Most of those aftermarket cold air intakes actually draw engine air from the engine bay, where it is anything but cold…

Adding ski pole or tower etc.

We pull tubes off the transom eyes all the time. it’s the strongest place that you can attach tow line to. Pulling a tube from a ski pole or pylon is a good way to tear the thing out of the boat when the tube submarines.

    Boat Ramp Disaster

I’m not sure if that occurrence (or videos of same) are all that rare… unfortunately.

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

No. That is stupid advice. Don’t fill your boat with water. All it will do is get things wet that should not be wet. It will not replicate the pressure of the water pushing in somewhere from outside the hull and intruding into your boat. Do not do anything that person says, ever again.

    '85 Sierra 16.5' Fiberglass - Floor / Transom / New Layout

Looks like you're on your way! Hard to know why that plywood is dark... could be some sort of coating, could just be aged wood. Hard to tell from a picture. Good luck pulling the engine and working on the transom. I'd probably want to get that weight out of there, since you've removed some of...

Good Idea or Bad Idea. Stringer Prep.

Good luck with your project. Sounds like working on a boat will be good for you. I hope it is.

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

Although replacing manifolds and changing fluids and other sorts of maintenance need to be done, it seems to me the #1 concern should be figuring out why you have so much water in your boat. If you discover a serious problem (e.g., a rotten transom), all those other become somewhat moot until...

First time boat owner with questions about 1998 Starcraft 1810 LX

We tube a lot, and even with wet riders and swimmers coming in to the boat, I don't think we've ever had enough water collect in the bilge to activate the pump. When I pull the plug at the end of the day, I might have a steady stream of water for 10-15 seconds, before it dwindles to a trickle...

    Resin Cracks

I’d be inclined to put a layer of plain old CSM down if you think it’s too rough. That would give the 1708 an even better surface to bond to. Faring with PB or whatever is just making more work for yourself.

Restoring 1988 sea ray seville v135 open bow outboard

Those are pretty good questions and you really ought to start by reading the stickies as Scott suggested. For grinding (eg., grinding off the tabbing that held the stringers, or the tabbing between the edge of the deck and the hull), you really only need to grind until the surface is flat and...
