    is it possible the ground wire is just for completing the electrical circuit to buzz or beep at KEY ON ? with the 3rd wire (barrel connector) being the real sense wire to be grounded by the heat sensor, vro etc... ?

    you can probably test the sensing device by measuring it's conductivity (ON or OFF ........ 0 ohms or infinity) for a "switch" version or... measure the gradual change in resistance value while you warm (heat) it up. for a resistance version . if ok then I would suspect the buzzer...
