Looking for a Turning Point Hub/Washer for a mercruiser

OK, how about a unique idea? A newer TP hub (or any other hub) will have a brass splined "tube" that connects the hard plastic hub to the propshaft. The plastic in turn locks into the prop shell. Why not take one of those standard hubs and shave it if necessary to fit into your prop shell...

    '85 50HP 2-Stroke - Does not run in water

None of the spark plugs are running really lean, IMO. The bottom ones are indeed wetter though. Really lean is a green or white tint to the spark plugs. You might check/rebuild your fuel pump, as the lower cylinder crankcases normally power the fuel pump, and if the diaphragm leaks, it...

Anode Bolts Mercruiser Alpha One Gen One 3.0

I used to put the egg-shaped zinc anodes on the trim rods. I ran ground wires to the mounting bolts of the trim rams.

    '85 50HP 2-Stroke - Does not run in water

Richen the carb idle mixtures 1/8 turn and try it in the water. Repeat if necessary.

Looking for a Turning Point Hub/Washer for a mercruiser

Johnson outboards use a spacer that is splined. It should fit your Mercruiser, and take up the space the star washer normally would. The standard Mercury prop nut is a nylon lock nut. The star washer is used but is probably overkill. When you say thrust washer, you mean the washer that...

    four stroke merc runnability

Carb four cycle motors will have primer bulbs. EFI and FI motors have electric fuel pumps and often no primer bulbs You might take a compression test to see if the motor is healthy. usually service manuals have fuel pump output and/or pressure tests.

need help finding part 94 mercury 40hp carb part

I did not find on on the web. A OB salvage yard is a distinct possibility. Also a plumbing parts store, or even the Home Despot should have a hose barb to threaded adaptor. The question is whether the thread is NPT, and whether that tapered area is needed. You could always drill the hole, if...

    Stereo Replacement Wiring Questions

The wires from power and ground TO the stereo can be thicker than the ones on the stereo, but not the other way around.

    Water in fuel

Gee, my shake-shake siphon will siphon 6 gal of fuel in 5 minutes or less. It has quite a large diameter capacity and doesn't require electricity and lasts for decades. How old is the gasoline? If it is not too old, it should be fine to use after the alcohol/water mix is out of the tank.

    Stereo Replacement Wiring Questions

A lot of stereos have a wire hooked directly to the battery to keep the radio stations and other items saved in memory. It takes a small amount of power drawn continuously from the battery to do this. Since boats sit for weeks, I hook them these to the switch, and reset the radio stations and...

Low compression Suzuki OB: 105...105.... and 65

I doubt those cylinders will clean up with a honing. You might inspect the piston tops to see if they are std size or oversize, as you will likely need oversize pistons and rings, for the machine shop to bore it properly. The real question is how much oversize boring do you need to clean up...

1990 Mercury 175 Overheat warning possible causes?

The usual causes for overheat are worn water pump parts, bad thermostats, and faulty poppit. If you fix those and she still shows overheat, it could be your head gasket(s) leaking. Put a torque wrench on your head bolts and see if they are loose. Those motors had a tendency for them to loosen...

    1984 75hp L4 with unique problem? I'm baffled!

Gee, I hope that works for you. I never found the bleed restrictors to do anything but lower the quality of the idle. Maybe your motor is different than my IL6 and Il4 motors.

    Water in fuel

Letting the water settle to the bottom of the tank is a good idea. Now siphon from the bottom of the tank, into a clear container. One of those "shake-shake" siphons work's well. You should let the clear container settle and you should be able to see the different layers. If in doubt, a...

Mercruiser trim pump has a leak.

The reservoirs tend to crack when the single mounting bolt is too tight. So tighten just enough not to leak.

    Cooling problems

That waterpump should create 30+PSi at cruise speed. I have never had any issue with them but remove the water grates and see that the passage is clean. A couple of notes. The gasket under the wearplate is glued to the gearcase. The oring under the SS cup uses some silicone to retain it, 4...

9.8 110 mercury wont throttle up anymore

Check the compression to make sure she is not damaged. If compression and spark are good, try richening the carb idle mixture 1/8 turn and see if that helps. The larger Mercs (IL4, IL6) of that era needed a rich idle mixture to allow them to rev up. If you set the idle mixture to idle...

    Winch replacement suggestions

Winch straps sit in the sun all the time. After some time, they get rotten and brittle. Then they wait for you to winch the boat up, and at the worst time, they break. So either change them every 3years (Depending on how much sun they get) or go with cable. I swapped my strap for a 3/8"...

Bigfoot runs for 2 seconds and dies

The carb may need to be cleaned. First test is to remove the high speed jet cover bolt and pump the primer to see if fuel runs out. If it does, then it is likely the carb idle circuit is clogged. If no fuel then the inlet needle is stuck or some other part of the fuel system is clogged. You...
