    1972 Evinrude 50hp selectric

Green wire is for the Neutral Solenoid, and the Blue, is Reverse Solenoid, but both actually have to be energized to get Reverse Check for Continuity between each wire and Ground. You really need to get the proper Service Manual before you go ripping one of these apart. Yes, if someone has...

    1972 Evinrude 50hp selectric

In post 13, you said "Put control in forward.------Turn flywheel with socket and ratchet.----Should shift to neutral after about one turn.--"

Shouldn't it remain in Forward, as no power is going to the Neutral Solenoid

If you decide to try the Carriage Bolt thing, make sure the Bolt Heads are Countersunk well below the top surface of the Bunk

Mercury 1995 115 runs well until below 1000 RPM

That's one of those 2+2 motors, below about 1800, it is only running on 2 of the 4 cylinders, so if one of those quits the engine will die. Check all the wires going to the stator for Continuity, as the stator is moved, as the wires do flex, and perhaps is opening, also look for signs of...

    Popping and revving?

You just gave an Example of why having the engine specific Service Manual is important

    Popping and revving?

@1200 rpm, they should still be fully closed

    Popping and revving?

Did it run before you replaced the Head Gasket? When you had the Head off, did you check it for Warpage, and/or Lap it? You say the carbs are fully closed at Idle, are they still fully closed at "just above Idle"?

    Prop binds up

Non OEM Props often require a non OEM Thrust Washer. When I put the Enertia Prop on my VP, the OEM Thrust Washer, was of no Use, however the One I needed was in the specified Hub Kit for VP drives

    Stalling after reversing

Perhaps you are backing up too fast and water is being pushed back up the Exhaust, and the Backpressure is strangling the engine

    Engine Swap

I will assume you are referring to things like Exhaust Manifolds/Risers, Water Pump, the miles of Hose Mercruiser uses on their Engines.

    Engine Swap

With the carb I suggest, and the Vortec Heads you will get close to 300hp, that is with the stock Mercruiser Cam Grind Beware that Cams that are great for cars/trucks are 99% of the time not very good for boats, so pick your Cam carefully

    Engine Swap

The OEM carb will likely be too small for the larger engine. Rejetting wouldn't solve anything. Add to the fact that larger engine will require more air at Idle which will mess up the Relationship between the Throttle Plates and the Idle Transfer Slots, on a carb sized for a smaller engine If...

Quicksilver grease - trailer and u-joints

Years ago, Mercury said 2-4-C was not usable in Wheel Bearings, but more recently I recall the Tubes saying it was usable. I can see somebody seeing that, and thinking "I got an old Tube of this back home...". A few weeks later they might be sitting on the Road, picking up little Pieces

1400 RPM loss from 13 to 15 pitch!!!

I don't have anything Nice to say about TP props, except they are cheap. But you get what you pay for, they often had at least one blade that was Bent, as in different Rake, than the other 2. They also made a Weird Prop, a 4 blade(first strike against it) that had 2 sets of totally different...
