MC Chevy V8 Bravo 1 Crankshaft water pickup pump issues

impeller rubber goes off of calendar years, not operating hours. impellers are easy to replace. sometimes you need to persuade the impeller out of teh housing. a dab of KY jelly on the impeller is all the lubricant it needs on first start. it does need to have the hose on full on the muffs...

    Guest battery isolator ?

no, they wont. however your one-wire alternator will drain your battery unless you turn the batteries off every time. that is why one-wire alternators are not used on boats

    Distributor alternatives

volvo has been using electronic dizzys's since the 80's. if you have a points distributor, someone put it in there. the main thing that can go bad on a distributor is the $5 bottom bushing or the $8 top bushing, both available at NAPA, or the springs on the advance bar. yes, you can switch to...

Curious, how are old boats disposed of that marinas refuse to haul out?

I was talking about the cost to hire a crane and have the boat hauled. me personally, I would turn in the boat, get the appropriate permits and tow it to the designated disposal slip and let them take it from there.

After dropping exhaust manifold to replace starter, I forgot to turn the raw water valve back on!

All the rubber hoses in your exhaust also need inspection. The exhaust went from 220 degrees with water to 1100 without. The rubber melts at 250f

After 2 failed Pertronix ignitors, I put in points and it runs again

Wrong. Setting points with a dwell meter is about coil saturation and full burn of the fuel charge. Which leads to better fuel economy, better power, and better idle quality

speedway will point you to pertronix. your experience is like many others (I had 3 different installations fail) check your dwell on the points.

Curious, how are old boats disposed of that marinas refuse to haul out?

as an FYI, the yearly maintenance on a 48' twin diesel cruiser is about 10k. that is annual haul-out for bottom paint, drive paint, re-seal the bits that are leaking, the monthly diver to remove growth, the weekly clean-out of sea baskets, the miscellaneous items, etc. boating is still an...

Curious, how are old boats disposed of that marinas refuse to haul out?

published prices are $200 per foot to raise, $500 per hour barge fee, then $X/ft for equipment fees (depending on if its a forklift, excavator, etc.), and then there is the disposal fees, and any surcharge the salvage company wants to charge. The law (at least in florida), if your boat is...
