    Smelly 2-Stroke

Even a 4 stroke with wind at your back has fuel smells so not sure you can get around it. Expect smoke at startup but if your seeing lots of it after it warms up then maybe something is wrong. Tough one because nobody knows how sensitive your nose is.

Stuck closed.... Okay. Wasn't sure and I wanted to make sure before you went to the trouble of replacing it. You should probably check the wire from where you popped it out of the rubber plug back to the switch for any chaffing and contacting a ground but the switches fail often.

Adding a water pressure gauge to 1987 70ETLH

At the end of the day the audible alarm is the best. You can have water pumping fine (good reading at psi gauge) and still get an overheat from something farther up the cooling system. If you want the best of both worlds put in a temp gauge and a pressure gauge if you feel it's necessary to...

    No start

Key word here is "appears" You can't guess. Do you have a meter and know how to use one? Not super difficult. You can try jiggling your shift throttle lever because maybe the neutral switch got messed up when changing out the key switch.

    Smelly 2-Stroke

Lol, I was going to say something similar or " Yeah, how I love the smell of 2 stroke oil in the morning!! " Very common complaint with women but with men?? Not so much. I guess it's a new world!

Hey, I might have got ahead of myself here. There is supposed to me a man overboard clip on the kill switch....(part number 78 on the breakdown) if that is not in it will not spark. I guess I just assumed you had one. If you don't have one you can take a piece of fat wire and put it around...

    1976 Evinrude Motor part?

Racerone is one of our good neighbors to the north as in "another country" but if you bribe him with some good company and excellent fishing he might just do that!

Well I assume you see it on the tiller, correct? Not sure I've scene it on any videos or manuals. Threading the wires through is somewhat the hard part. Also, removing the pin connection from the rubber plug can be tricky without the omc tool. Some guys just cut the wire and use a butt...

    1976 Evinrude Motor part?

May want to start with a few simple tools and then move up before moving up to harder stuff.....just saying. Perhaps a spark plug tester. Hopefully you have spark and if you correct the gas shooting all over maybe it will start. Pretty sure that little motor is going to need a few more items...

    Need help

I don't work on those really but I had one. Same thing. It ended up being a rotten pickup tube from the pump. Had to take the power head off just to get to it. PITA.....

    8hp Evinrude running poorly.

Okay, post number 72 and rising!!! Interesting. So the little hole on the right gets smaller on the larger number size, is that correct. To bad they don't list them that way. Finicky little sob. I don't think that's going to correct the mid range stuff but we shall see. Still a dime a...

    1976 Evinrude Motor part?

Yes, saw your picture of you holding up a fish....looks like a good fisherwoman!!? Okay motor wise. Just aquired right? You've got moxie but the older outboards need a little more know how. Do you know the history of this outboard? Does it have new fresh parts? Most likely not. So your...

When you pulled that thing from mothballs I hope you put some oil in the spark plug holes and hand spun it for awhile. You still can by the way. As you continue to demoth it most likely the compression will come up.

    1970 4hp Johnson low compression

Funny how many compression testers test incorrectly. Interesting that your 9.5 runs that low.... When working on outboards or chainsaws what have you, after 80 to 90 lbs I haven't had much luck. Maybe I'm to picky or have YOU checked your tester!! ; ) PS I don't think he should give up just...

    1970 4hp Johnson low compression

Whoa!!! Crosbyman on the war path! I know compression doesn't affect the pump but tells a story of how worn the motor is. (Rings, bearing, seals) All of those things could affect how the pump gets it power from. If you read the OP is not getting fuel out of his fuel pump and I just wanted to...

    1993 4HP Johnson

Grease the splines but not the top, it won't go in all the way if you do. If the gearcase won't drop down (lack of greasing)then post again....some tricks but it's bad news. Your probably fine. Three bolts on the bottom, take your time and don't force them and then the gearcase will pull...

    1993 4HP Johnson

Yes, the switch completes the grounding. (Normally open) so when you pulled the wire apart you stopped the grounding. Your switch is not releasing. You could try wd40 and pushing it a bunch of times but switch is a common failure. Water is coming out the exhaust relief holes so that's good but...

Your new battery went dead on two cylinder compression tests? That's odd.

    1993 4HP Johnson

You will need a new kill switch part number 75 on this part list. Not always fun to replace by the way. Can't believe they didn't put a tell tail on a 93 but maybe. I'm working on an older 4 hp and really there is now way to tell. Check head temp or pull and make a visual on the impeller.

There is an adjustment at the screw labeled #2 on the carb breakdown. Roller adjustment. Probably leave it alone until you see if it's running correctly.
