    Help identify this hardware

Those are standard trailer rollers. They usually support the keel or a strake. The u-bolts attach them to the trailer frame. Not sure what the side rollers are for, but look to be custom for a particular hull.

    Play in driveshaft

Some gearcases have 2 piece driveshafts. They have a junction, just above the driveshaft bearing, and have some wiggle, when not installed. The crankshaft holds the top of the driveshaft, when in use. There is a seal on the driveshaft. It sounds like yours's is leaking.

    1976 Mercury 850 value

Part 84-73362A1 looks to be the harness from switchbox to each coil. So get some ring terminals, and 4 different colors of wire and a soldering iron and make one up. Be glad is it not an exhaust baffle that you need. You have an ancient motor. Non-tune up stuff is going to be NLA.

Salt from outboard ruined my tools!!

Gee, try leaving some tools in the boat at the salt water slip.

Using navigation lights with bow lights in unison.

Gee, those LED lights are .4A. I know LED lights are more efficient than incandescent lights, but those LEDs are less than 5 Watts. I doubt those will light up more than 10 foot from the bow. The cheapest Wallyworld handheld spot light is 100W.

    1994 merc 115

Sounds electrical. Since the starting system and ign system are both affected, and they are not connected, except at the main harness plug and the ign switch, check those two places. Look for broken wires, corroded wires. Also check the main fuse. That doesn't affect the ign, but it would...

    1976 Mercury 850 value

You might be able to give them away in my area (salt water), but not sell them. The blocks get real brittle and corroded from the salt over 47 years. You would need to be able to do any maintenance/repair on them yourself, as no shop here would touch them. If you plan to run it, pick up an...

Need Help with Remote control box

Jake, your issue could be the remote control, or it could be engine tuning. This should be posted in the Force motor forum. djslice, Force motors were quite numerous. A replacement remote control should not be hard to identify. Look on the crowleymarine site under Force accessories for a...

    Mercontrol Shifter Issues

A modern Mercury control will mechanically fit and work properly. The wiring will be different. You will need to either update the engine harness or reuse the originally wiring.

    Bearing Buddies Ruined?

If your trailer wheel doesn't have brakes, you can fill the hub as much as you want w/o fear of the grease melting and building pressure. If you have brakes, don't overfill the BBs. So when the front plate starts to move, stop pumping.

    1150 Link & Sync Question

The bolt holes on your Mercury are quite different than the standard. Your Merc uses six 3/8" bolts and two thumb screws. The newer pattern is four 1/2" bolts. So fill and drill. Why are you worried about engine weight? Your transom and boat look able to carry a 500# motor. A Merc 150HPV6...

    V6 lower unit prop shaft

You can chase the threads, and clean up the splines with a file. Not sure what caused it, perhaps ill fitting prop splines and an ill fitting prop nut? Will it work, probably....

    Cavitation Burns

I had the same thing on the TP prop on my speedboat. The metal was actually pitted. Fill the pits with marine putty and prime and paint. Not sure if it is cavitation or ventilation burns.

    What is she?

Evinrude used to make boats under their own name. That kinda looks like one, with it's rounded features. The had the Evinrude "E" as an emblem, if I remember correctly. Look on the steering wheel for that "E".

    Doghouse reconstruction

A metal frame is not necessary, and can get heavy real fast. Also, a lot of doghouses have non-90* angles, which will be difficult with angle iron. 1/2" plywood is fine. I recommend you dry some pressure treated CDX for this job. Stick it in the rafters of the garage for a couple of weeks...

    Tilt Fluid

Dextron ATF is better. In the old days Ford had it's own special formula (Type F), which was not recommended by Mercury Marine. Not sure now. Does the PTT motor run in the up position? If so, help it up by hand and lock it up. Now fill it with ATF, and let it bubble out air a bit. Now...

    Wooden stringers

Sounds like your Doug Fir was actually pine. A lot depends on where you are in the country/world. I would use dry pressure treated pine for your stringers. Plywood is stronger, however, if it gets wet, it falls apart. The PT stuff will still last a very long time if it gets wet. If you can...

    Winterizing: Fuel in tank options?

If your stabilized gasoline becomes smelly over the winter, your stabilizer isn't working properly. I do not have any issue with stabilized gasoline staying pretty fresh over the winter. Adding fresh gasoline in the spring is always a good idea. At this point the debate between filling the...

    115 mercury carb problems

So if your cylinder has no ability to exhaust, it will have no intake either. Relentless bugs....or you have a clean engine. A clean engine is a sign that you do not boat enough.
